Bush Gardens, VA

Anyone been there lately? Thinking about taking the kids for a weekend trip. Debating between staying at Anvil or American Heritage.

I'll be up there in July and staying at the KOA. Is that ill advised?

I haven't camped there in about 10 years. We did actually stay in Anvil that time. It wasn't the nicest campground I have stayed at but, certainly wasn't the worst. I did expect more though.

As for American Heritage, I haven't stayed there. Hopefully someone who has stayed at both can chime in.

The park was as usual, very nice and clean.

We were there some years ago and we stayed at anvil. Nice enough but right next to a railroad track. Dang trains ran all night. Next year we stayed at colonial koa. It fit the bill, is a typical koa and was busy.
If you are there for longer than a weekend, there was a pass that you could buy that got you into busch gardens, the water park, jamestown, williamsburg and yorktown. The pass included parking but not the extra $ williamsburg sites like the gov. mansion. You could buy it online and pick it up at busch gardens. We did a fun day then a history day, then a fun day, history, fun. Our kids had a great time.

You might check out Newport News City park.

Newport News Park: Newport News Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism - Virginia

Stayed there 3 or 4 years ago. Nice rustic park. Only about 8 miles to Bush Gardens.

We stayed at American Heritage a couple of years ago. We liked it. The CG was nice and quiet. We did hear the train at night. it bothered DW but i slept through it. We are going again in August and planning on staying there again.

I live here in the area and highly recommend the Newport News Park for your camping needs. It is only 10-15 minutes from Busch Gardens.

Williamsburg KOA and Chickahominy River Front Park would be my choice. American Heritage is also a good pick. Be sure to do the " ORIGINAL GHOSTS of Williamsburg nightly tour. Fun / Clean entertainment for Adults and Children.

We stay at the KOA all the time...my sis in law works at the park and lives nearby. The KOA is actually split into 2 sections...one is busy and full of the amenities and activities, but they also have a quiet side with the best pool on earth. You have to ask for the quiet side if you want it though or they assume you want the "fun". This year we'll be in a cabin since we have a permanent site in MD.

We were at American Heritage Easter Week and a nice place with pull thru sites and a clean bath house. The cable was good but the wifi was hit and miss.
Have fun.

We were at the KOA for four days over Easter weekend. We enjoyed the campground. The spaces we had were not the most level but that appeared to not be the norm. The staff was very nice and the grounds were clean and quiet.

We went ahead and reserved a site at Anvil. We have stayed at American Heritage about four years ago and were happy with the park. Only plan to be there for a long weekend, so I thought we would try another place.
