Campground near Savanah

We want to visit Savanah, GA after attending the Southern Chrleston, SC Holiday Festival of Lights FROG Rally in Mid Dec. Any full hook-up campground recommendations in the Savanah area would be appreciated.

Thanks

We love Skidaway Island state park. Full hookups, beautiful settings, and easy access to downtown.

We stayed at River's End a couple of years ago and really liked it. Walking distance to Tybee Island lighthouse, and only a 5 - 10 minute drive to downtown Savannah.

We usually stay at Rivers End also. Not bad and lots to see on and off the Island and a block walk to the ocean. Later RJD

Skid away will not let you reserve a certain spot. At least that is what I saw when looking for January..

That's the way Georgia State Parks reservations work. You can reserve a site with the amenities you want. The number of open sites will not exceed the number of reserved sites. Say you reserve a full hookup site. When you arrive at the park and checkin, you can choose whatever open full hookup is there(they are all rated for 50' rv sites, at least the last time I looked at it). We've stayed at Crooked River and Fort McAllister parks as well and they were run the same way. At first we didn't care for that method but now we prefer it and wish other parks operated like that.

Yeah I see an issue with that if you were meeting someone at campground and wanted spots next to each other. Especially if you did not arrive together or most were taken and you were on opposite ends of campground

Thanks all for the responses. We just made reservations at Skidaway State Park. It is not site specific, but we are guaranteed a site that will fit our unit...at least according to the reservation info.

Interesting thing about planning a 3-4 month RV road trip. You focus more on destinations and approx how many nights needed. You don't focus as much on actual calendar date. Turns out, we'll be in Skidaway for X-MAS and St. Augustine for New Years. Not planned but just worked out that way.

We stayed at Camp Lake Jasper, near I-95 Exit 8 in South Carolina. It was nice, quiet and clean, but not a resort type. We were there to visit Savannah Wildlife Refuge, Tybee Island, and the city of Savannah, so we weren't there much during the day.

I highly recommend visiting the Eighth Air Force Museum at I-95 Exit 102 in Georgia. It is very well done. There's a lot more to see and learn than just airplanes.

A few years ago we stayed at the Hardeeville RV park. It was fine, but it's a little harder to get to than Camp Lake Jasper, and it seemed to be harder to get to Savannah from there. Camp Lake Jasper had nicer bathrooms, etc., but otherwise there wasn't a lot of difference.

Thanks for this lead. My father was in B-17's during WWII. This will be a definite stop on our trip.

Great to hear that my suggestion was helpful.

My recommendation to visit the museum goes to everyone who participates in the forum.
