Campground recommendations

Hi all

Can anyone recommend some campgrounds along I 90 from Ohio to Massachusetts ? We will be picking up our camper in the spring and bringing it home. We plan on making this our 1st trip of the 2018 season. Any thoughts on Presque Isle campground or Erie KOA. or Westfield/Erie KOA? Also looking at Clute Park Campground. We are in a 5Th wheel have a generator too. We are new to camping as this will be only our 4th time in it. bought it last year and still learning all about camping. Any thoughts would be great.

Erie KOA

I saw your post today- I know it was posted on 2-14-18, you did not state when you were taking this trip.

My wife and I have been to the Erie KOA a number of times- very nice campground only a few miles from Presque Isle State park with very nice beaches, There is an Amusement Park- Waldemere, and a classic dinner Sara's near the entrance of Presque.

I have not been to New York, but I know that KOA's are always nice campgrounds and I sure that on would be also. That would not be to far from Niagara Falls- another nice area to visit.

Enjoy the journey!

Between Syracuse and Utica, NY is Verona - home to Turning Stone Resort & Casino and includes The Villages RV Park. Luxury type camping, but right off of I 90. Never camped there ourselves as we're more state park people, but is very convenient.

Check out rvparky apps, it's a great apps. The one we use most is rvparksandcampgrounds, the apps we use most. Another one is rv parks and reviews. At Niagara Falls we like Four Mile Creek state park. They have just water and electric, great views of the lake. They have a dump station

X2 on The Turning Stone. The Westfield KOA is outstanding.

We enjoy Sara's campground at Presque Isle. Its right at the beginning of the state park. Not far from the amusement park. the bike path starts nearby through the state park. I did not like Westfield KOA. Lake Chitaqua has a nice KOA. That's as far north as we've been.

For the Erie stop. Presque Isle Passage is right off 90 at the Sterrettania/Rt 832 exit, north of 90 about 1/8 mile. Their pull through sites are great for a quick stop. We lived there in our TT 3 years ago when building our home. Make a left out of the CG and that road goes to Sara's and the entrance to Presque Isle State Park. Have never been to the McKean KOA but have always heard great reviews.

Westfield KOA has the back row of campsites literally against the fence next to I90, traffic noise is guaranteed.

A bit further north is Lake Erie State Park, I have never been there but have heard good things about it.

Chautauqua Lake KOA is a nice place but further from I90.

My personal preference for travel across NY state is to take I86 across the southern tier. There are a few more hills but the scenery is much nicer, there is far less traffic, and there are no tolls. Services are not as frequent or convenient as the Thruway service plazas but I have not found that to be a problem.

Erie State Park seems quite nice. When I visited there were not many campers (week day) . The bathrooms were very clean. The park looks very well kept. I don't think they have full hookups though.

DougW has a great suggestion taking I86 through the southern part of NYS vs. I90, NYS Thruway paying high toll rates. It might take you out of your way a little but 86 takes you through Corning, NY which offers a very much must see tour of Corning Glass. Just up the road from Corning is Watkins Glen International Race Track that has a variety of things going on beside racing. One is the Finger Lakes Wine Festival usually the second weekend of July. A blast! Before Corning off I86 is Bath, NY and a short distance away Keuka Lake and the KL Wine Trail. Some world class wines, especially German varietals can be found around the lake trail. Prettier scenery and ride along I86.

Also, in bath is a very nice campground - Hickory Hill Family Campground. There are also two RV dealerships.

Hickory Hill is an excellent Campground! Two pools, putt putt, great hiking trails and maybe most important, about 5 miles from an awesome brew pub in a 100 year old + building on your way to the wine trail.

North of I90 is Lakeside and Hamlin Beach State Parks. They are on Lake Ontario.
Further west on I90 is Old Forge and Nick's Lake SP.
You can also drop south to Cooperstown: Hartwick Highlands Campground.
Enjoy.

Well labcamper, I've been to Hartwick Highlands CG too! Excellent place. Rated them a 10 on campgroundreviews.com. Owners are really friendly. If anyone visits Cooperstown, the second attraction in the area to me and my DW after the Baseball Hall Of Fame is the Blues Train...Right next to you guessed it, Cooperstown Brewery!
