Campground suggestions near Charleston, West Virginia

So my in laws live in Ohio and we are in North Carolina which makes Charleston West Virginia about the half way point to meet and camp. So, we are looking for a campground that has things the for the kids ages 3 and 6. Basically a playground, pool and where we can all ride bikes. We both have 5th wheels so I'm looking for a place that can accommodate a 42ft camper. And would prefer full hook ups.

Please let me know if you have suggestions.

No help, but Hello from Concord, we're practically neighbors.

We did camp at Thousand Trails in Mocksville about once a month since 2006, but the last time we were there 2012, it has gone from a nice clean cg to a rundown, trailer park as have most TT parks. We don't camp locally anymore. Go to FL for 3+ months in the winter.

Not necessarily geographically between each party, but Gettysburg is having its 150 year anniversary of the civil war battle. Might be a worthwhile trip for both parties. Lots of CG's in the area. Don't miss the private auto tour with a guide if you go!

Locally, we like Cross Winds Family Campground near Linwood and Dan Nicholas Park near Salisbury.

Never tried those. Are they quiet and well groomed? Full hook ups?

Dan Nicholas is a Rowan County park: water, elect but only a dump station. It's across a lake from the actual "park," with a zoo, train rides and a lot of activities. The campground is well removed from all that, but lots of kids riding bikes on the paved roadways in the campground. Might not be quiet enough for you. The campsites are very woodsy. Natural grooming.

Cross Winds is very well groomed. You may get a little noise from I-85 depending on which section you're in. Owner is a former Highway Patrolman and airline pilot. Owners or camp host always on-site. Nice people. Nice deep and wide back-in sites in Section B. Nice wooded areas between sites. Excellent full hookups and cable.

This has only been around for 5 or 6 years, I think, but they have done it right. About to open another loop in the woods, also. Open year-round and they do Campground America discount with some restrictions.

We go to Dan Nicholas a lot simply because of the activities for the kids. It's a very nice campground and if you get on back side away from the lake it's pretty quiet. The only downfall is no sewer or cable hook ups. Other than that it's a great campground.

We are planning to try out crosswinds this summer.

Yeah, we've found that when staying at "The Nick" it's best to go home on a weekday, if possible. On Sunday afternoons, people end up circling around and around to get in line at the dump station. And if more than a couple are in line, they block traffic. They really should have another dump station on the way out, like the area where all those big grass fields are.

Summerville Lake is beautiful and a great place to fish, boat, or jet ski.

You might try Foxfire KOA a couple miles west of Charleston. We overnighted there last year and thought it was nice. Nice lake for the kids ( Adults ) very clean and can accommodate any size rig.
