Campgrounds near Dover,DE.

I have a tournament in May at the Kent County Recreation Center in Dover and was looking for recommendations for a campground nearby. Just need the basics since weíll just be using it as a hotel. Thanks

Killens Pond State Park would be closest. 20-25 mins. south of Dover. Everything else will be 45 mins. or more.

Killens Pond State Park at Felton, Delaware would be the closest. It is about a 20 minute drive north to downtown Dover. Lumís Pond State Park is about 45 minutes north of Dover. Both are nice locations and reservations would be necessary.
There are a few mobile home parks closer in the town of Dover but I would be leary in either neighborhood.
Delaware has a few other state parks with campgrounds but real estate is too pricey for an RV park to survive. The Eastern Shore of Maryland has the same issues. We lived there for over 25 years and going back to visit means we boondock in a friends pasture.

The Air Force vase would be pretty close, but sounds like they have 10 sites and several of those are taken by seasonal. Also, looking at the site I canít tell if you have to be military of some sort, in which, I wouldnít be. Iíll check out the state park. Thanks for responses!

Yes you need to be military to stay at base. There is also a couple privately owned CG, Jellystone just south of Milford. There's Massey's Landing in Long Neck buts pretty far away from Dover over an hour. There are two others near Milton don't remember their names.
Which direction will you be coming from?

Holly Lakes Campsites is another about 45 minutes away in Milsboro. Itís not the prettiest but if you are just using it as a hotel room the. It would be ok. Iím told the back part of the campground is nicer. The front section is old with some old trailers sitting vacant. We stayed in the front section last year.

Yeah I would try Lums pond if you don't mind the drive or stay close with Killens pond both are nice places. If you were coming from the Bay Bridge area I was going to suggest maybe Holiday Park just across state line in MD but I'm not a fan.

We tend stay just short of our destinations drop the TT in a CG then do want we want without burning excessive fuel.
