We're hoping so. We wanted to stay over Thanksgiving week to but no slots available for that week. But the week before is fine with us.

How far is it from Fort Desoto to Pinellas Park? My father lives in PP. I would like to stay fairly close so the KOA might be my only option but DeSoto sounds nice.

I don't know... I would guess about 1/2 an hour? It's about 15 minutes to get to the interstate from the park, but then an easy drive up 275 from there.

We are booked there for 4 days in September. Picked it cuz we will have our dog with us on this trip and love the idea that we can chill at the beach while he runs and plays with the other dogs. He is a very social Jack who loves to go go go! We are headed there after our 10 days in the keys, 3 at curry hammock and 7 at long key. Can't wait.
You mentioned some good restaurants near fort Desoto?

Keep in mind that to get to Fort De Soto, you have to take what is called the Pinellas Bayway to get there. It's about a 10-15 minute drive down off of 54th Ave. BUT, once you get to 54th Ave, it's a very short drive over to south St. Pete Beach. Lots of restaurant choices there, such as Crabby Bills.

Curry Hammock and Long Key!! Great choices!! We just got back from Curry Hammock last week.

It was just my husband and I, and since we have 3 kids, "as little as possible" was our agenda. However, you will see in the State Parks thread that we found a couple things of interest. You could try kite boarding if you are adventurous. We will kayak in shark and gator infested waters all day long, but will not be trying that! LOL.

When you go to the hiking trail north of US 1, across from Curry Hammock, you will come across an old quarry. We snorkeled and swam in that. Had the place to ourselves. But beware of the poisonous trees on the hiking trail.

Also check out Keys Fisheries in Marathon. Dog friendly, outdoor casual dining with yummy key lime pie. In biking distance (3 miles) is Island Fish Company for a little less casual dining.

We will try Long Key next time we go.

Poisonous trees, WHAT. We are northerners and don't have anything like that. What is a poisonous tree?

It doesn't say much about it. What happens if you touch it. Is it like a poison ivy reaction.
