We're coming from Michigan to visit family in Bridgeville. We're considering heading toward Ohiopyle, too. We're really just gathering information at this point. Thanks!

Where in MI are you coming from? We are looking for a route out of Romulus going to Gettysburg and looking at your trip to Bridgeville as one way to go. Later RJD

Since you are going to Bridgeville, the Washington KOA might work better being south of Bridgeville. We have never stayed there but have never been to a bad KOA. I was born and raised in the West End, really close to McKees Rocks.

We stayed at Fox Den Acres. But no idea what side of Pittsburgh it’s on.

That would be south east of the city, about an hour from Bridgeville.

You have two choices, jump back on the Pa turnpike with tolls and stay on it to the Route 15 exit for Gettysburg and that takes you right down to Route 30.

(You could also jump off at Breezewood Pa on 70 then pick a route from 70 up to Gettysburg.)

Take 70 west back to 79 south then pick up 68 east to 70 then choose which way up to Gettysburg as there are a few.

Get with me at the rally and we can discuss the options a bit better in person.

Ok we can do that. I think we will be staying at the Fox den acres CG so we will be heading out from there to Gettysburg. Trying to travel with Sailor Sam 20500 to rally. Later RJD

Fox Den Acres is our choice whenever we are out that way, nice long pull thru full hook up sites. Ask for a site in the lower section of the park.

Take the turnpike. Route 30 is super hilly between the 2 and actually is warning/posted about tractor trailers taking it.

If you have time, the Flight 93 National Memorial is nearby. It's about an hour. We stayed somewhere closer to it and drove to it one afternoon. Amazingly moving.

For flight 93 I think the best place to stay is Friendship Village at Bedford.
I agree do not take Route 30 east of Breezewood for Gettysburg if you don't believe us ask FROG Bob he did once and said never again.

Ace... Let me know if you are coming to the Flight 93 area.
I live less than 2 miles from there and know of some unadvertised camping places, including the availability of 30a electric only on my property.

Stay off Rt 30 between New Stanton and basically Chambersburg.
The T-pike cost a few bucks but worth it. Even us locals avoid 30 in many paces for the most part.

To The OP... I'm only about 30 miles from Ohiopyle.
Let me know where you think you want to say and I'll make some recommendations.

Bear Run is an OK campground but well north of the Burgh.
Actually as far north as Bridgeville is south. It would be a hike.

Going to Gettysburg on the PA Turnpike from the West is easiest done (and shorter and quicker) to exit on PA997 just out of the second of the twin tunnels at Blue Mountain. I think it's Exit 200. Easy peasy drive down to US30 and the east into town. All the way east to US15 is much longer. It's the way the College directs parents and prospective students so they don't get lost, of course.

Battlefield KOA is on the west side of town and our favorite of the half dozen we've stayed in there.
