Canal or Hillman Ferry-KY :Lake

Starting my research for early summer's big trip. We are gong to plan on heading to The smokey mountains for possibly 5 nights and along the way we wanted to stop back at Kentucky lake. I have stayed at Hillman Ferry before and really liked it. Only real issue is the distance into town. Trying to get some feedback on the Canal Campground VS Hillman. Anyone stayed at both and could shed some light. Full Hookups preferred!

Canal is three miles closer to town, open dates 25 Mar - 30 Oct each year. FHU at Canal is $29, $18 for w/e. Hillman has the outpost store & entertainment venues during the summer months. Both have boat ramp access & beach swimming. Travel time from Canal to Pigeon Forge is 7-8 hours. Be sure to route yourself around Nashville on Hwy 155 Briley Pkwy east toward the airport to I 40 east. The intersection of 24/65 is still under construction and 3 lanes into one in this area is no fun. No difference in miles but the traffic flows.
