Catskills/ Western Vermont

Howdy,

Anyone have a suggestion for the Catskills? We are heading there this summer and looking for something rather remote. Also, looking in Western VT, I found a few State Parks, any suggestions for VT? We like remote campgrounds either near the mountains or on a lake/river. Hookups not too important. Thanks.

In NY, check out North-South Lake https://www.google.com/maps/place/No...!4d-74.0432167

Plenty of trials and close to the Katterskill Falls and Hunter Mountian. Some really nice sites, PM for details and recommendations...North-South is dry camping like most of the NY state parks in the Catskills... Mongaup Pond is remote as well and is a favorite...

In VT, Check out Half Moon State Park
https://www.google.com/maps/place/Ha...9!4d-73.222885

Close to Lake Bomoseen, Rutland and a bunch of cool VT attractions like the maple sugaring museum, VT marble museum... All VT state parks are dry camping but really nice facilities... also look at Emerald Lake State Park

Check out Winhall Brook which is an Army Corps of Engineer campground. Some sites have have water and electric but not all. Beautiful area near Ball Mnt. Dam. Stream and good hiking trails through the campground.

Checkout Vermont State parks website https://vtstateparks.com/. Shows pix of site and estimated camper sizes of all the state parks. Our favorite is Elmore state CG outside of Morristown. Sits on beautiful Lake Elmore-with a dynamite beach- and against Elmore Mountain with its trails.

Mongaup Pond recap

We just got back from the Catskills and decided to stay at Mongaup Pond thanks to a shout out from one of you, and the fact that North/South Lakes was booked. We came in from the North( Lake Placid) and the drive up the mountains was a tad stressful, but successful. I have since started searching this site about climbing mountains. The park is very nice and rustic. Our site was not the greatest- very unlevel to the point our fridge stopped working after 48 hours. We moved forward and got more level and then we were fine. The entire CG is in need of lawn cutting, everyone had high grass in their sites. The pond is awesome though (more like a lake, it is huge). We did a lot of kayaking and paddle boarding. If you can score a water front spot the scene is magnificent. They also have a great waterfall hike that we enjoyed and a few other hikes out of the CG. We found a different route home that was much easier which was nice. We also experience our first General Store on wheels. They came by daily with all the fixings you might need, including ice cream. Overall, an awesome time and I would recommend it.
