Central florida

We are trying to plan our first trip in out new Sunseeker to central florida the second week of January. We are looking for a rv park near a river or coast. I have been looking at a couple of Encore resorts Bulow, Southern Palms and Crystal Isle resort. Any advise will be appriciated.

We are heading to Southern Palms right after Christmas for 3 months. Our TT is stored in FL to save the expense of hauling it from SE Ohio. As you can see from the SP website, they offer a lot of ameneties. This will be our first winter there, but our best friends have stayed there every winter for years and love it. Maybe we'll see you there.

If you don't need full hook-up (sewer) there are several state parks around Central FL that are very nice. 2 in the Orlando area are Wekiva Springs , and Blue Spring. I've been to both and they are very nice, but I prefer Wekiva over Blue Spring. Wekiva is going through a renovation right now, adding sewer to all sites, so they do not take reservations, but have sites available on a first come basis. Others close by are Hillsborough River SP, and Rainbow Springs SP. Go to the Florida State Park web site for more info.

If you want to spend more money, Fort Wilderness at Walt Disney World is excellent.

There is a very nice KOA at Titusville (KOA Kennedy) that we used once when Patrick AFB could not take us.

While not a resort, they are also not that expensive on non launch days.

We've stayed at Silver River / Salt Springs in Ocala/ Wekiva outside of Apopka/ Anastasia near St.Augistine all nice parks and all with access to water. Blue Springs is in Orange city and is also nice!

Bring lots of toll money or get a Sun Pass. The toll roads around here are expensive. There is a KOA off the 417 you can check out. It has a lake, pool, bathhouse, etc. Lake Whippawill ( not sure this is spelled correct) is the name of the KOA. Very nice campground. Also it is near Kissimmee and Disney.

The Daytona area has Tomoka State park that is on the intercoastal, and Sebastian Inlet state park is great for saltwater fishing on the Intercoastal as well.

I am in Saint Cloud which is close to Orlando - Once I take Delivery of my 2306 - I will be doing some camping near the ocean.

A Nice place is Jetty Park at Port Canaveral if you want the east coast and just off the ocean.

Also Sebastian Inlet has a nice camp ground as well and great place to fish if you want to be on the ocean / Inlet

Hey Steeljag - My parents live in Salt Springs if I am not mistaken there is a trailer park right across the street from them - Silver springs supposed to be nice and is about 30 miutes from Salt Springs

August 12th and 13th I am camping at Fort Wilderness - my buddy is a Disney employee and is getting it for $39 a night - so I opted for Friday and Saturday night instead of the four days they are staying since I am a 35 to 45 minute drive to there.

Salt springs (federal or state) is a nice park.......but, don't tell anyone ! Across the roadway is Elite Resort at Salt Springs which is a private C.C where the owners own the sites. It is nice ......but has lost its camp ground feel over the years (IMHO).

Silver Springs attraction is about 30 or so minutes away.......and is a good old fashion attraction !!

Maybe we will see you at Salt Springs one day........

You may find this funny but...Lazy Days has a great camp ground. Swimming pool, resturant,etc.

I grew up in the Orlando area and have camped at all the state parks here mentioned and the campgrounds in the Ocala National Forest. My favorites are Anastasia, Blue Springs and Juniper Springs in the Ocala followed by Alexander Springs also in the Ocala.

Favor Dykes south of St. Aug is a quaint state park and I would consider it one of the areas secret gems. I like the wild woodsy coastal feel of the place and it is great for the kayak or skiff.

Heading to Blue Springs come April for the kids springbreak and to break in the new ROO.....
