I usually do a search to find one of the weather estimating sites to get a feel for what to expect. Here's Charleston:
Charleston Month Weather - AccuWeather Forecast for SC 29401

57 would be nice coming from 25 or 30 degrees in PA.

I may be heading that way then also. Daytime high around 55, night low of around 40. Ok, so it may not be Fl warm but sure beats 35 to 25. I can wear a jacket and be quite happy! No worries about snow or ice till I come home. Will have to watch the weather coming home to Jersey. No big deal.

Might be forced to stay their a few extra days, wow!

Living in Charleston I know what January can be. Last January we had one night that went down to 14 degrees and pipes froze and cracked at my house. I wish I could believe those average highs and lows. That is why we still head to Florida.

In only one night? Were your day temps below freezing? Were your pipes exposed to the wind?

Unfortunately an average is just that. Mother Nature doesn't read those charts. Where I live we are running about 5 or 6 degrees above normal for November. I have seen years where we ran 10 below average. You just never know. MN is a fickle old lady!

We are from Long Island, NY and are heading to Florida to meet up with Mmnsc. He is right that it still gets cold there during the early part of the year. We left Florida the early part of March this year and made it to South Carolina. It was cold, not reaching 50 during the day and in the 30's at night.

It could be cold in Charleston

I was raised in Charleston and remember some cold days in Jan. and Feb., which are the coldest months. It could be in the mid 50s to low 60s or you could see a high of 44 with a low of 28 in late Jan. I would guess you will see temps in the mid 50s to low 60s during the day time and mid 30s to low 40s at night.
In any event, it should be fun.
