Charlotte camping ideas???
Daughter lives in Clover, SC.........just south of Charlotte. She is having surgery June 15. We will be going to assist and visit for maybe 10-15 days then.
Any suggestions as to good campgrounds? I can't find much that piques my interest in the area. She lives close to Lake Wylie but not too impressed with that lake. Also, checked out Kings Mountain and it was extremely primitive, more so than the website indicates.....and quite old. That's fine, but not sure my 40 footer will fit.
Seems the campground choices are limited to A) affordable but no 50 amp or sewer, or B) Private and expensive.
Just wondering if anyone has direct experience around there within driving distance.......
Thanks.
Bill

Carowinds. Camp Wilderness. Nice campground on I-77 at the state line.

Was afraid this wouldn't generate a lot of responses.
Have 3 kids scattered across USA. This is one of them. Sort of disappointed in the paucity of campgrounds at all 3 locations...........and the cost and size of the ones that are there.
Oh well.

I was also going to suggest the campground at Carowinds. It was nice, we stayed there a couple of years ago when we went to the park.
It might not be what you are looking for, but it was clean, but not too quiet.

You can try Ebeneezer Park in Rock Hill, SC. It is a nice county park right on Lake Wylie. I see that you don't like the lake, what do you not like about the lake?
Ebenezer Park

I'll have to add that to my "if I'm in that area" list. Looks pretty nice, thanks for the link!

Well, I'm a fisherman.........and I prefer lakes that are not crowded with skiers and that allow homes to be built all around it. Most power company lakes (like Wylie, and a couple here in Arkansas) allow home building and lot ownership on it. Most COE lakes either don't allow it, or allow very limited housing on the waterline. Wylie is a good place for a lot of folks......that like skiing and boating. I like my water a bit more still......
I have looked at Ebenezer Park. I've driven by it and noticed it several times before I thought about camping. It's ok for just a place to stop, level and paved but not very 'rustic'. On the other end of spectrum is Kings Mountain, which I drove through. It's rustic......to the point of all gravel roads and sites, probably built in 1930's......it would be fine, but I don't think they have sites for my ginormous rig (which may be a limiting factor a lot of places).
I appreciate all the responses......... there are some choices....just have to pick one.

I've not stayed at this KOA but it doesn't have the best reputation. The owners of the park also have a biker type bar that is attached to their gas station/convenience store where you enter the campground. Don't know if it is still there as it has been a few years but just something to keep in mind.
