Question Charlottesville and Galax, VA campgrounds

We plan to visit this area next month with our SV 264 and wonder what campgrounds others have visited. We'd like to be within 50 miles of Charlottesville and use it as a base to do day trips.

After 4 days in the Charlottesville area we looking for a good place to base in the Galax, VA area. We'd like to leave it in one place for 3 weeks. But we need a secure place since we have to go back to NC from Monday to Thursday to take care of business. We've stayed at Utt's Campground in Fancy Gap. The managers are terrific and the place is very secure, but they don't have wifi, which we definitely need.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I MTBed the New River State Park in '08. There is a campground adjacent to the old railbed, a few miles north of Galax. I don't recall the name, the local C of C should be able to help you out.

Verona KOA is my favorite in that area. Not sure about the mileage from Charlottesville though, but it is close to the caverns.

There is a KOA in Madison, about 25 miles north of C'Ville.

Small Country Campground is about 25 miles east of C'Ville.

Misty Mtn. (per Kim) is about 15 miles west of C'Ville.

Heavenly Acres is near Stanandsville, about 20 miles NW of C'Ville.

I haven't stayed at any of these, so I can't give an opinion.

I have stayed at Deer Creek Resort near Galax. It is a fairly new campground, clean and neat. Good destination campground about 10 miles from Galax.
