We stayed at the KOA last year and really enjoyed it. Lots for kids to do. Not much of a drive to get to the Williamsburg center where you can grab a shuttle bus to the town and you can jump on and off to visit different parts of the city. I think it was $3 per person for seniors. One thing we did not do is pay the $50 or so $ apiece for the town tour as one can walk it. You are limited to being able to go in certain building tho but then you get the all day talk show. I don't think we missed much.
Consider going to James town also and be sure to take the ferry boat across the James river it's free. You can drive around on the other side and then return back by ferry or you can drive about 70 miles to get back around to Williamsburg.
