Commodore Barry Bridge / PA and NJ

Just looked at my June EZ Pass statement.

I was charged $15 for each crossing across the Commodore Barry Bridge in my new Dynamax REV. This is a 24' motorhome on a 350 chassis.

I was charged $5 per crossing in my previous 24' Sunseeker which is heavier and higher.

The Commodore took the wind out of my sails.

You should call the PA EZ Pass folks and ask why.

Since my original posting I changed my vehicle information on the PA EZ Pass website from Make = Dodge to Dynamax and from model 3500 to REV.

All other tolls on this statement seem normal to me.

I then visited the Delaware River Port Authority web site and discovered the following which I copied and am pasting here assuming the site team does not object.

Toll Schedule
Effective 7/1/11

Tolls are paid by vehicles traveling from New Jersey to Pennsylvania. The westbound-only collection was implemented in 1992 and reduces traffic congestion on the bridges and approach roadways.

Vehicle Classification Toll
Passenger vehicles, including motorcycles & small trucks 7,000 lbs. and less gross vehicle weight (Class 1 & 2) $5.00

Trucks, mobile homes and recreation vehicles- gross vehicle weight 7,001 lbs. and up per axle $7.50

2 axles $15.00

3 axles $22.50
4 axles $30.00
5 axles $37.50
6 axles $45.00
Buses - per axle $3.75
2-axle $7.50
3-axle $11.25
Extra axles for autos (each) $3.75
Extra axles for trucks (each) $7.50

I don't recall paying more than $5 on any of the bridges crossing the Delaware other than the one in the New Hope/ Lambertville area n Rt. 202. That one is inconsistent on the toll charges.

I have a temp NJ tag displayed. I am now wondering if that caused the toll increase. I should have my PA registration this coming week. I am tempted to remove the NJ temp tag which currently covers my Existing PA tag. I am just waiting for the title transfer.

Registration usually does not matter they charge by either weight or number of axles, we get charged for 5 axle most of the time, just glad they don't charge for the Smart on the truck as a extra car

My previous RV weighed more and both have two axles. There must be an additional criteria or perhaps their scales are recording wrong weights.

I wonder if the "government" scales are checked and certified.

Lol this is our standing joke...and I lived in NJ for a while :-) Still have many, many good friends there.

I know on the PA Tpk I'm paying more for my sunseeker than my car :-( I believe it's he same system - based on number of axles.

I live in NJ and pull a 5th wheel. When crossing the Delaware for some reason I get charged the wrong price. A quick call to easypass and I get credit the next month. Just have to watch the statements.

I was leaving NJ a couple of years ago with my 5th wheel in tow. Got a $30 charge on ez pass statement. Called in to question the amount and was told I was lucky, new price was now $40. Never saw any notice of cost when driving thru. It is expensive to leave NJ.
