Talking Cross Country Trip! 2 Adults, 13 yo & 2 yo

Just recently got back from our cross country adventure. From Redding, CA to the East Coast and back in our Forest River Wildcat 29BHS. On the trip was my wife and I with our 13 yo daughter and our 2 yo son. The trip went flawlessly with very minor, minor problems with our trailer. Over all a huge and enjoyable success. Other then the humidity.

Final Trip Statistics:

Total Days Travelling = 54
Total States Visited = 24 States + District of Columbia and Canada
Total Miles Traveled = 11,137.2
Total Visits to Gas Stations = 76
Most Expensive Campground = $67/night (Washington DC)
Least Expensive Campground = $15/night (Ellis, KS w/full hookups)
Total Pictures Taken = 11,406 (Canon 7D)
Total Number of Flats = 0
...Total Number of Truck Trouble = 0
Total Trips to Medical Clinic = 1
Total Number of Diaper Changes for the 2 yo = ????
Total Number of times We Thought about our pool at home = 377

Just thought we would share and if anyone had any questions, etc. It was a great time with great memories. I got a lot of advice and tech info off this site. Thanks everyone.

Sounds like a great trip. What do you do that allows you to take 54 days off? I need that kind of job.

I am part owner of an engineering firm. We don't always take 2 months off. This was a special occasion, because our daughter is going to be starting High School. She has been around the country, Canada and to the Caribbean a few times, but there was alot of places back east she hadn't seen. So that's why we took 2 months. In the next few years she will be too cool to travel with mom and dad, so we try to maximize our time. Next summer we will be back to our normal 3 week to a month vacation. Keep in mind I don't take off much time the rest of the year, so I save up my time. My main travelling philosiphy that I try to teach my kids is to:
  1. Travel
  2. Experience new things out of your comfort zone.
  3. On your death bed, NOBODY has ever said they wished they had spent more time at work.
  4. Have fun.
Yes I own a successful business, but it was a great day when you relize that there is more to life then making money. You can have so much fun, even with very little money.

Sorry for the rant. Just hope it helps others to think outside the box, even though one of my boxes happens to be a travel trailer.
