We been to this area several times over the years. Always a different campground many to choose from all across North Ga. Always make reservations many months ahead. Most are full or near full but not crowded.

So far, I really like COE campgrounds. We used to camp at Hester's Bottom (Mt Carmel on Clark's Hill Lake) Our favorite now is Twin Lakes on Hartwell. You really have to be on your toes, usually all sites are booked on holidays.

Headed to Doll Mountain CG (Carters Lake ) on the 18th of next month; time enough to hit the apple festival in Ellijay. Probably head over to the Ga Mountain Fair (bluegrass music) later that week. (yes, I really do pick a five string bango, a Gibson Granada I take with me)

Doll Mountain Campground beautiful quiet place to enjoy life.

Would like to be here for that. Went to the apple festival about 5 years ago. Will be going again Lord willing.
And would sure like to hear your music, love that kind music always wished I had learned to pick at early age. Still might try it.

I used to be purdy good but I tore a rotatory cuff in both shoulders and couldn't play for a number of months. So I'm a bit out of practice. A quality banjo is a very heavy instrument due to the bell brass tone ring. In my best day however those mountain folk around Blairesville would put me to shame.
As far as learning to pick, you ought to give it a whirl BP. There are a few websites with good and free on-line lessons.

Like I tell folks, "my goal is to be 5% as good as Earl Scruggs was on his worst day".

Paul, I went by site 15 an talk with Al. BTW, I attended 3rd, 4th and 5th grade in La Fayette and Vinton La. Over a half century later, some folks tell me they can still detect a little Cajun accent.

Hey Picker guess Al is doing good for a man that had the physical problems he has had I enjoyed talking to him. I can't tell you have that accent at all but no doubt you were in the real cajun country in that area. I have a daughter that just moved back to Baton Rouge from Lafayette. If you pick 5% as good as Earl Scruggs i say you good because it would be real hard to beat him.
