Doswell, VA (Kings Dominion)

We are going to the Virginia State fair in October. It is located just down the street from Kings Dominion. Does anyone know of campgrounds near Kings Dominion that are good?


I don't want to use the campground at Kings Dominion because I have heard nothing but horror stories about the place.


Any suggestions are appreciated.

The Americamp North in Ashland is relatively close to the state fair. The sites are level - the staff is nice. There's not much to do nearby (except Basspro Shops). We've stayed there twice - just as a quick getaway/last minute decision. It's worth going there.

I would think that the KOA in Millford would be OK. About 20/25 miles.

coming from NOVA - Milford is the first campground of the two you will come to - but, it's off 95 and over on 301. From Ashland to Doswell is 8 miles - so it's a 50/50 shot - go a little past or stop towing a little sooner. I've never been to Milford KOA - so nothing negative - it's just we've been to Americamp and it's a nice little campground.
