Driving from NJ to Richmond Virginia - Cant use Tunnel in MD

Ok, so driving from NJ to VA but I can not sue the MD tunnel, so does anyone know the direct route down using the MD Bridge instead of the tunnel, also can not remove propane tanks so that is not an option as the Police pull over all RV's because of Propane

Depending where you are going in VA just use 695 beltway around Baltimore. Only other option is Route 13 and go across Bay Bridge Tunnel which is expensive.

Yep, on I-95 you'll want to take I-695 around the bottom side. It adds about 15 minutes to your travels. There's a bridge with a toll. If you go the top side of I-695, it's no toll but often times more traffic.
Google Map

Many people suggest just taking 301. I've never driven it and only imagine a ton of lights on it. But, haven't actually driven it.

From exit 7 take 295 ( no tolls and nice road) to Del mem Bridge. Then 301 to Rt 50 across Chesapeake Bay Bridge ( no toll this direction). Then Rt 50 to 495 then Rt 95 to Ashland /Richmond. 301 between DMB and Chesapeake Bay Bridge divide rd with trucks and little traffic. After Annapolis 301 has way too many lights and malls to make it fun. Try to avoid the Chesapeake bay Bridge to Rt 95 ( just south of DC during both rush hours.

Does this have the start and endpoints right?

If so, either route that I posted would work.

You could use 695, do not take that 495. I also heard while in Florida, if you shut down your Propane you could use the tunnel, just here say.

Or you could take 80 - 77 and down, I've done that to avoid that DC area

Not through Baltimore. The I-95/Fort McHenry tunnel doesn't allow propane. Neither does the I-895/Baltimore Harbor tunnel. You have to go around using I-695.

That is how I plan to do it, but if you go to the Army Corps of Engineers site they allow each propane bottle to be 10lbs or less, however if you go thru and one is 9# and the other is 11# it is a $1,000.00 ticket.

For me it is just not worth it to get pulled over and for them to weight the tanks, 45 min at least before I can continue my drive, so I planned a trip around Tunnels and Washington altogether

Taking 695 round the east side of Baltimore (rather than the west) is much quieter, and you get beautiful views from the Key Bridge.

Here is the MD Transportation Authority Reg re propane.

The Transport of Hazardous Materials Across our Toll Facilities
Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) govern the transport of hazardous materials across our toll facilities. Under these regulations, vehicles carrying bottled propane gas in excess of 10 pounds per container (maximum of 10 containers), bulk gasoline, explosives, significant amounts of radioactive materials, and other hazardous materials are prohibited from using the Fort McHenry Tunnel (I-95) or the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel (I-895). The Francis Scott Key Bridge (I-695, the Baltimore Beltway) is a convenient alternative route for crossing Baltimore's Harbor.

I will be leaving from DE to Richmond. I will be be going by way of 50/301W. You will pay a high fee traveling 95 at Newark DE. If it was me I would take 301/50W thru DE and MD and cross bay bridge. Then on to 495 to 95.

I am about 10 miles south of Baltimore Listen to flybob use the Key Bridge or the Bay Bridge; the bay bridge route is a bit more scenic. The “rush hour” between Baltimore and DC starts at about 4 AM and runs to about 12 midnight

I did not use the tunnel, but heard a few New Yorkers and New Jersey people who do. My choice lately has been going thru PA, adds time, prettier sites.

FlyBob is correct. We drove from Charlotte, NC to south Jersey last summer and had to use the 695 bridge to avoid the Baltimore area tunnels.

I live south of Baltimore also and this is a gross exaggeration. Baltimore and DC from 10am-2 or 3pm are generally fine. And then again after 7pm-9pm after rush hour but before the road construction sets up. Even after 9pm generally is OK unless there is a major construction that squeezes things down to just 1 or 2 lanes.

That said, any precipitation from the sky turns the whole area into a cluster duck.

What the heck? Why is this a problem? Weighing propane tanks?

Seriously, I can't understand the question.

The law's the law- no propane allowed in the Bmore tunnels.
