Love this SP and being very close by, we sneak out the often when someone cancels a reservation. SC just changed their reservation policy. You can now reserve 13 months in advance!

We've never been able to get in to Bahia Honda, either. We did have a reservation for Long Key for lobster season (July), but have had to cancel since we bought our new rig and the site we booked wouldn't hold it.

Bahia Honda is the most popular. Try Curry Hammock. We stayed there two years ago, and you can either walk to the day use beach (popular with kite boarders) or walk to the north side of the island for your own private snorkeling.

To the OP, Beverly Beach Camptown in Flagler Beach is awesome.

Also, we greatly enjoyed Ocean Lakes in Myrtle Beach, although a little bit too big for us.

You might want to be careful around the fresh water areas :

+1 for Assateague SP.

Campsite is just on the backside of the dune. And the beach is bare, only people from your camp loop in that part of the beach. And wild ponies.

I do it without hookups about 4x per year.

+2 for Assateague SP. Hardly anyone on the beach. Wind is a PIA. If you have any sort of pop up screen room or an easy up canopy you need to stake it down really well. You can pretty much forget about using your awning also. All food must be kept inside. It is fun to watch the horses walk through the campground daily. As soon as they see a cooler sitting out they go after it. There is only one loop with electric which is nearly impossible to get a spot there. We were lucky this year and managed to get the last electric spot over 4th of July. If you have a solar panel you can easily charge your battery.

We have a trip planned in late August to Assateague sp. We got a spot with electric. We have only tent camp there several years ago. Looking forward to camping in a HTT should be more comfortable!

Gets a bit crowded down in the electric loop. But I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay. Btw, the bath house renovations are excellent. Very clean.

Here's the view in A-loop last weekend.

in Myrtle Beach, Sc we have done Ocean Lakes, Pirate Land and North Myrtle Beach Travel Park. The kids prefer Pirate Land.
On the Outer banks of NC we have done Camp Hatteras and the KOA Outerbanks. Both are very nice. CARRY EVERYTHING you will need with you. It is a LONG ride to a grocery store!!

Will be at Anastasia Island this coming weekend (St Augustine, FL) & then Jetty Park (Cape Canaveral) in Sept. Spending June & July camping at springs (the cold water is great then) & Aug / Oct gulf coast of FL.
Can't wait to try some of those other east coast recommendations once we can travel a little further (In other words...no WORK)

We stayed at Ocean Lakes in Myrtle Beach last week and our only complaint was the kids on golf carts thumping rap until 11 pm quiet time. It really seems out of character for the campground because it is clean, well managed and everything was great until the kids arrived on Friday. I called security and they said "we tell them to turn it down if its too loud", trust me, that didn't happen. A real shame, we will try Pirateland next time because of it.
