EZ-Pass prices??

Not sure whether this fits better in the dollars and cents or here but here we go.
I have a PA EZ-pass account. The reason is pretty simple- a few years ago we took a nice trip from KY North East all the way to Bar Harbor Maine and I grabbed an EZ-pass portable transducer in a grocery store in Hershey PA.

The PA account charges me a $3 annual fee plus it has a MINIMUM top up of $35.
Even tho we haven't used it for nearly a year apparently the annual fee dropped it below the minimum and it dinged my credit card for $35 last week. I now have a $42 balance and no idea if we will ever use it other than the $3 per year thing.

Question-- IF you have an EZ-pass-what state is the account from and what is your annual fee if any and what is the minimum top up charge??
Thanks!

Mine is a MA pass with a $20.00 top up. We have no problem using it as we summer in the Berkshires. No annual fee.

Every state will have different rules. I use the NC Quickpass which is compatible with the EZ Pass system. My top up varies based on use. I was making regular trips up to PA, they bumped my recharge fee up to $40. Once I stopped it came back down to $20. We have a couple of guys in our NY office where they get wacked for $60 for the top up due to heavy use. I don't have an annual fee on mine.

In your case, you might be able to turn it in and get a refund?

I'm in NJ, and bought a DE pass when I heard they didn't have any 'fees' tacked on. In NJ, I believe if you use less than a certain amount in tolls, they tack on a monthly billing fee using a NJ ezpass. Screw that. So for the DE ezpass you have to pay the 20 bucks up front for the transponder, but then after that the only thing you ever pay are for tolls. I believe mine reloads in 25 dollar increments, and I believe that amount is adjustable.

I can mail my transducer back to PA and they will issue a refund. We have a toll bridge here in Louisville which uses EZ-Pass. We rarely cross it but I want to keep some sort of EZ pass. Just trying to see if there is a cheaper state to buy it from. Thanks.

Delaware is also very good and fast mailing out extra stuff you might need, like the velcro tabs to affix your pass to a different vehicle, and doesn't charge shipping.

Our Ohio EZ-pass is $0.75 per month per transponder (we have 2) and a minimum of $75.00.

I have the PA EZ Pass. I live in PA and have had it since they started offering them.

I paid a $10 deposit on it when I bought it but that $10 was applied to the balance once registered.

There is a $3 annual fee. That is easily made up with the reduced rate in tolls using the EZ Pass vs paying cash.

My account only gets charged $35 once the balance drops below $10. I use mine heavily and never experienced a charge of more than $35 although I have had the $35 taken out twice in one week due to several long Turnpike trips during that period.

I have an Illinois one that I use two or three times a year that was a $10 deposit and automatically fills with $20 every time I get below $5 in my account with no additional fees.

It worked when I went through a Kentucky toll last fall. Might be an option for you.

WE are from Delaware so that's where we got ours, no fees except when we use it for tolls. They just our raised our refresh amount due to heavy usage but if towing we are heavy and get charged a lot, the trip home from the Goshen rally for all toll roads for us runs us close to $150-200, but we usually have to rush home for wife to go back to work or else we would go a different way.

NY E-ZPass here but I live in NH... No fees... No deposit if a credit card is linked to account. I have 4 transponders. Replenishment varies based on use. It has been as low as$10 and as high as$60. I have had this account since inception of the program in NY - NY was way ahead of NH with implementing ez-pass. They even proactively send me a free replacement if they sense issues or a dead battery.

We use NC QuickPass as well. The big sell for us was it is good for EZ Pass and Florida's Sun Pass.

Birdman are you sure that you are not paying any fees ?
I also have a NYS EZ pass but because I live in NJ I pay a $1 per month fee. However I do get discounts on the NY tolls that someone with a NJ transponder would not get. My account is linked to a credit card and automatically replenishes in $ 25 increments, but I think this adjustable. That is the amount I chose

I got my NY EZ Pass and with automatic ACH/Debit replenishment when it drops below $10 there is no annual fee. Mine is set to put $25 if it drops below $10.

I never had one before since I don't go through tolls on a regular basis, but NY went to all cashless tolls so I figured I'd get the EZ pass rather then get billed in the mail every time I do go through a toll.

Just going on one driving vacation makes it worth it! I got mine because I used to go to the Outer Banks of NC from NJ every year. I think it's like 25 bucks in tolls each way!!

Exactly, That's why I started this thread.
Trying to find the lowest denominator er denomination?

Especially important for me is no annual fee, no inactivity fee.
Sounds like I willl check out DE and read their fine print.
Thanks to all for the info!!

SOME day the entire East coast is supposed to get their act together and
honor each other. In that case the Florida SunPass with no annual fee and
a minimum $10 top up is the winner.

I have used the PA EZ Pass for years and have found their customer service to be excellent. They are great with refunds and for settling problems you may have in-state or out-of-state. They actually fight for you when you get fined, overcharged, etc. by other states. They have really impressed me and saved me lots of money in times where another state claims you owe them money, regardless of whose EZ Pass you use. I will never use an EZ Pass from any other state.

NJ EZ Pass will charge you $1 per month fee if you elect to get a statement every month. If you elect the one statement every 2 months there is no monthly fee. Also, if you are a NJ resident over 65 you can apply to the NJ Turnpike Authority and get reduced toll rate on the GSP during non peak times.

X2

IPass works for me. been to all the eastern and Northeastern states with no problems. Sometimes billing is slow but they will get their money.

We also have a Sun Pass and a Texas Tag accounts. Wish that they would all get together on a single standard.

Make sure you pre register the other vehicles you are going to transfer the transponder to, or you will get fined. I live in Delaware this is a true statement.
