Favorite south eastern camp sites?
Hi, looking to take a weeklong camping/anniversary trip in March. Just bought a Sunseeker, anyone care to share favorite south eastern campgrounds? I have a reservation in central Florida but I thought I'd ask before trekking to see Mickey again. Game for DC area too...thanks!

We live in north central Florida and it just depends on what you want to do on your vacation. Do you want to go sightseeing or stay in the campground or resort most of the time? We have camped at two Georgia state parks that we enjoyed. One is near Waycross - Laura S. Walker State Park and the other is near Savannah - Skidaway Island State Park. We hold rallies and often will camp for a weekend at Williston Crossing RV Resort in Williston, FL. It is within a 20 minute drive to Ocala and Gainesville. Cedar Key is also within a 30 to 40 minute drive.
My advice is to figure out what your goal is and then plan around that. There are many sites where you can see pictures of the campground on the internet, which should help you with your decisions.

For an anniversary trip, I'd say try getting a site at Bluewater Key in Key West and enjoy opulence.
DC in March is too cold for me. I want fun in the sun!
Otherwise, the gulf coast or southern Florida.
OR just stick with Disney at Fort Wilderness. It IS a beautiful campground.

Our favorite cg in Florida is Ginnie Springs, ginniespringsoutdoors.com. It is 25 miles NW of Gainesville. There are seven springs in the cg, a café, dive shop, canoe, kayak & tube rentals, small country store, seven restrooms/showers with HOT water, appox. 50 sites with water & electric HU or 100's of sites for "boondocking" style camping. This April will be our 40th year going to Ginnie with our family and friends.

Don't plan on using any thousand trails campgrounds. They charge you a fortune and don't have any vacancies. Went to peace river and half the campground is still not functioning from Irma.

Have you thought about adding on Trails Collection to your membership? We’ve been in Florida since mid-December and have TT & TC reservations continuous until April 3 minus a week that we are going to an Orlando City park and a couple of days after we are supposed to pickup a new rig. Both gaps are by my choice.

Some other suggestions;
Pensacola, FL. White sand beaches. Go tour the USS Alabama in Mobile, AL. Book a room for a night and go to New Orleans to experience Bourbon St.
Rivers End Campground on Tybee Island, GA. You can walk the beach or be in Savanah within 30 minutes for the restaurants/nightlife.

Since you are in NC check out campgroundgallery.com. It has reviews and pictures of campgrounds. It was started by a NC rver I knew on another forum. It also has other CG in the area you are looking.

Top Sail Preserve State Park on Santa Rosa Beach is our favorite. Used to be private but now a state park in FL. One of the nicest we have ever stayed in - Full Hook Ups, spacious sites (BE and PT). Free tram, bike or walk to the beach. Recommend that you take your bike to ride if you like to bike. Hiking trails (miles of them), two lakes just steps from the beach which is very unusual and rare. Kayak, canoe rentals, close to lots of restaurants in and around Destin and plenty or golf courses. Easy drive with interstate and good roads.

Favorite Campgrounds
James Island County Park, James Island SC. Beautiful. 10 minutes from beaches, 15 minutes from downtown Charleston.
