We use the "RV Parks and Campgrounds" app on our smartphones.

Sure . go to play store on your android. do search for rv parks and campground. App looks like TT with tent and tree in background. tent looks like rainbow until you look close. Thats the one. its free. You can drag a filter in from the left side and add or filter out all kinds of stuff. 1000 trails, walmarts, casinos, elks clubs etc.. Great app

If you're a Good Sam member, you can get the Travel & Savings Guide for $6.95, at Camping World, or online mail order. It's a thick guide, with every state listed.

Lots of apps and websites.

One thing I do........is simply Google "SmithTown, State Campgrounds" and a map comes up. A little playing with zooming in and out will bring up more, or fewer, campgrounds. There's even a few reviews. The websites are listed, if they have one. If one looks promising, I check out the website. Hitting "Back" button takes me back to the map. Then I just move the map to see campgrounds in other locations close by.

2x I use Google Earth. Search for "RV campgrounds near ...." It's not 100% but I like being able to see where a campground is located. I have often avoided a campground next to a RR track or 10 feet from the Interstate. You also get a feeling for the camp by looking at its layout.

We've used rvparkreviews since we started full timing four years ago. You need to read the reviews from several posters on the parks or campgrounds you are interested in because some folks give a low rating and/or poor review based on things that the park or campground can't control such as interstates or railroads. Another popular complaint that some folks use is the wifi not being useful which is a problem in a lot of parks I will admit. What I can't understand is people that "work" as they travel using the internet for "work" complain that they can't get on or use the "free" service for hours and days at a time.

I don't think park and campground owners owe people part of their living by providing this service to them. Carry your own or don't cry.

I've used a few of the apps listed previously like AllStays, RV Parky and Google Maps but we tend to stay in Provincial Parks and KOAs that have their own websites. We only occasionally stay at a private campgrounds other than KOAs.

Here in Ontario, Canada, you can use campsitepictures.com to see pics of campsites at many Provincial Parks.

I normally use goodsam.com or koa.com. However, if it's a campground that you - or someone you know and trust - haven't stayed at, be sure to use maps.google.com and the aerial view to make sure that what's being said is actually being shown. I'm a light sleeper and that saved me from staying multiple nights in what sounded like a very nice campground - that was about 500 feet from an interstate highway!

Harley, I use Allstays app. It is a one time $10 price. I use it on my iPad. What is great about it is just what you are wondering. What is available for camping in the area you want or what is along the highway as you travel somewhere. Allstays shows private campgrounds, state parks, COE, has, Walmart, RV service centers and much more.

Once you see a campground you are interested in just select it and it's name will appear and then press the info icon and a tab will pop up showing the main details of the campground and the tabs to select for reviews, to visit their website and a star rating.

I have included 4 screen shots of the area you are interested in. Check it out. There is another couple of campgrounds closer to the border. One is a COE and one a private.
