Finger Lakes Region or Magog, Canada area

DW and I are looking to tour some vineyards while camping this year. We would be going the week after Labor Day in Sept and are deciding between the Finger Lakes Region in NY or around Magog in Canada.

Has anyone been to either of those areas? Recommendations??

Thank you in advance!

We have never camped in the Finger Lakes Area of New York but have driven through it. We drove up last August and went to Canandigua, New York. Beautiful scenry. On the way back home we drove through Letchworth State Park....we wanted to stay all day but had to get on the road. We had to make a detour, ended up in a valley with all these windmills going. It was an awsome site to see.

There are a number of great State Parks for camping. Also a great number of winery's. Here are some links that may help you out.

We live in Canandaigua, NY. It's one of the best of the Finger lakes, if not The best. It has some amazing State parks around and the best Wineries. They do have a KOA about 15 minutes away from our city. You will love it here!

We have been up to Watkins glen near Seneca lake. Great camp ground and excellent wineries on both sides of the lake. Wagners and Castle Grisch are two of my personal favorites.

The Finger Lakes region was I would guess 20-30 different wineries. The choice of wines and tastes is unending. Add to that what is offered in the surrounding areas. I'd go for the Finger Lakes.

I would go to the finger lake area. Cheerful Valley Campground at Phelps NY is a very nice private campground. While in the area you should also visit Sauders store located at 2146 River Rd Senica Falls NY. It is an Amish store with a large meat counter and a varied assortment of Jams and jellies. When we visit Geneva NY we always make a point of going to Sauders. Plus there is a large factory outlet mall in Waterloo. While visiting the wineries of the area you will also come across several Amish stores.

I have to say this is a VERY low estimate. I thing there are over 30 wineries on Seneca lake alone. We are planning another trip there targeted for early august right now. We plan on staying at the Watkins Glen KOA this time as well. (Watch out for race weekends) Not only is it hard to get a site; but it gets pretty wild. (Picture a "Girls Gone Wild" video.)

Have you seen the price of gas in Canada, I live here but I would never pull my trailer any further than the border in Canada.

Three for Castle Grisch - AWESOME Riesling.

Don't forget the other finger lakes. Lots of wineries on each one.

If anyone is interested, there is a Finger Lakes Wine Festival in Watkins Glen from July 13th thru July 15th at the Race Track.
