First time towing with new TV to Pittsburgh

Last week we took the first trip to the Pittsburgh area using the new Chevy 2500 TV. WOW! What a difference! Now I know why people say once you go to the dark side you'll never go back.. We set the cruise control to 60 to 65 and never heard the truck even break a sweat! Made the 300 some mile one way trip in under a half tank of fuel. My 1500 needed gas every 200 miles.

We stayed at a KOA in Washington PA which was maybe 30 minutes or so South of Pittsburgh. It was a very small campground, probably under 50 sites, most of which were pull through sites. They were very small sites, our awning almost reached the class A next to us. Our site was almost dead level and clean. Our 33ft trailer and my truck parked end to end JUST fit into the allowed area to keep everything on the stones. We did use the pool which was nice on the 90 degree days after hanging out in the city, the wee one loved splashing around.

The one caution... Make sure you come in the daylight to get to the campground and follow the KOA signs. Our GPS wanted us to go down a narrow alley to get onto the road to the KOA but the signs made it very clear which way to go. The main entrance road is narrow (almost not enough for two cars to pass so two trailers is a big NO!) and very windy with a 40mph speed limit! I could not do the limit even without the trailer since it was so dark, windy and narrow.

While in the 'burg we checked out the city and a few of its sites. We had a two year old so we had to keep it easy. But we did go and eat at the Primanti Bros. and got their famous Pittsburger. Wow was it good. It is two thick cuts of Italian bread, burger, cheese, tomato, coleslaw and fries all smashed into the bread!

On our last day we made the 2 hour drive to Altoona and visited the Horseshoe Curve. I am not a huge rail road buff but it was VERY cool to sit and watch the freight trains pass by.

Sounds like a fun and successful trip! I have only driven through PA once-- on a car trip to Maine and never realized how beautiful it is there. Thanks for sharing your first trip ...

I have lived outside Philly all my life and after driving West for almost 6 hours I could not believe one that we were still in the same state and two how beautiful and open the land is. I've hiked parts of the Appalachian Trail when I was younger and I guess I forgot how nice our own state really is. We always end up visiting somewhere else in another state.. Made me realize not to pass up our own state so quickly.

Welcome to my neck of the woods!! Glad you enjoyed this area and Horseshoe curve is awesome place to visit for what really was done on an engineering point.

Pittsburgh has really cleaned up it act just the traffic/constuction is a big low.

Traffic was not to bad, we visited the city on the weekend to avoid the city traffic. The construction was not to terrible or fun but it is no worse than anything we have around here.. I will say it was crazy sometimes trying to navigate with all the tunnels, bridges and rivers breaking up the city. But over all it was a very nice area. The KOA was very nice as well, I was not criticizing them, just letting those know the area if they visit.

May I ask where you camped in Washington? We have friends down that way and may want to make a trip after we get ours?

Yes, we saw that place while on one of the trolley tours. Quite an interesting way to re-purpose and save an old structure!

Yeah it was crazy, we had a few close calls on the road with the locals zipping through... Not the hardest spot I've had to navigate too but I cannot imagine in the dark, rain, or snow it being a fun experience.. But with the new ride it was the hardest part of the journey..
