Florida Highway Help

Leaving the frozen tundra for Florida this weekend. I can get to Florida without a problem, but I have had an issue in the past getting from Daytona to the Keys. I want to stay on I95 till I get close to Miami, then get around
the West side somehow without getting in a mess in Miami. Last year I ended
up on a toll road somehow with license plate tolling. I still have not received a bill for that. I would like to avoid toll roads as much as possible. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You're better off getting on Florida's Turnpike as soon as possible in my opinion. Regardless of the toll by plate potential, it puts you west of 95 around the horrible Miami mess. You can buy a Sunpass, too.

Check is route out. I love US HWY 27. It's about 20 miles longer, but I bet you it's faster.

Get off I95 at Fort Pierce ( I think it's exit 127) and pick up the turnpike south. You can get Sunpass/Epass stickers at rest stops but many people report not getting charged for license plate tolls. The FL turnpike will make you trip much easier, especially around Miami

Just came back from the Keys. That's exactly what we did.

We go to the Keys each year for the Christmas holidays and the FL Turnpike is the way to go. K.I.S.S.

Thanks to all. Guess we will get off 95 at Ft Pierce and pick up the toll road. I'll do
anything just so I don't get stuck in that Miami mess again.
Thanks again

Pick up a Sunpass as soon as you get into FL and set it up with your plate. We went though there right after they went to the cashless tolls and they had no record of us going through, but I wouldn't trust that you won't get billed, or fined for not setting up the toll by plate ahead of time.

Sunpass

The Sunpass is linked to your trucks plate then if you are towing they charge extra for how many axles

Haha I had to laugh at this as we're from Fort Lauderdale and can't stand Miami traffic in any vehicle. Definitely take the turnpike south, and avoid 95 that way. As long as the plate is registered to your address, you'll get the bill. If you purchase a sunpass, it goes on the interior front window and picks it up as you go through.

You can list both plates. That way if your sunpass should malfunction they can get a pic of your trailer plate and send you a bill or notice. If your towing your trailer they can't see your truck plate but I'm sure they will track you down.
