If you decide to move down the Keys, we have camped at Jolly Roger at MM58 and really liked the place. From there it's still over an hour to Key West, but a more do-able day trip.
Unfortunately with all life has been tossing our way and will continue for the next couple of years, we don't have any Keys trips planned until 2019.

We are going to try and make a day trip of going ALL the way down the keys from John Pennekamp since we're planning on taking a sea plane to the Dry Tortugas. We'll be leaving super early that day (on a Wed and w/o the camper) so I'm hoping it won't take more than a couple of hours, but we'll plan on three just in case
For the most part our time in the Keys will be more about fishing charters and snorkeling. There's soo much to do!
