We are headed down South from St. Augustine. St. Augustine is booked everywhere. We got 3 days and then kicked out. While here looked at other places and all are booked. So where do we go next? What's a great place to visit? Any small old towns on this coast? We live on the west coast of Fl.

If you can get into Bahia Honda State Park it is very nice. It has the longest natural beach in the keys. There are some short hiking trails, kayak rentals and beautiful scenery. Our favorite place in the keys.

I believe the CG that's closing is Knights Key in Marathon. Right at the north end of Seven Mile Bridge. I read they are going to put condos there. What a shame. MHO

See if you can get into the Red Coconut on Ft Myers Beach. It's Gulf coast,,,, You can camp Gulf side or bay side. Not the fanciest place, but clean and staffed with great people.

That's a shame. It's one of the better rated ones in the middle Keys. I had a hard time even getting to talk to a human a few weeks ago when I tried to book there. That might explain it.

Mike and Cathy,,,,, just thought of this - if you need a place on the way down, try the KOA at Lake Whippoorwill just SE of Orlando. Nice place - we go there every Christmas

Fishing, snorkeling and relaxing are the things to do on the upper keys.
Big Pine Key is our favorite.

Florida Keys

We can vouch for KOA Lake Whippoorwill in SE Orlando. Stayed there the week before Thanksgiving to visit family in the area. THE KEYS: We have a time share at Matecumbe Resort in Islamorada and have been going there for years. After getting our Rockwood TT thought about selling time share and camping but found campsites are outrageous, too close together, too near highway. Cheaper to keep our time share so I can't help with CG in the Keys. But check our Robbie's Marina in Lower Matecumbe key. Kayaks and other water sports. Also Theater of the Sea was good-not your usual tourist trap. Lazy Days restaurant and get the fish house special. And we love Key West in all it's weirdness!

Thanks all. I'll have to look into Big Pine Key resort (I like to fish) and Bahia Honda (we like to snorkel).
