We are trying this place out in a couple weeks. http://strosarvresortnavarre.com/ We wanted full hooks, close to the beach and we waited too long to get a reservation at Topsail so thought we would give it a try for a long weekend. Saw a few others on here that said it was nice. Will post an update after we go.

St Joe was one I was going to suggest, but Kamping Junkie never narrowed down the requirements. St Joe is the perfect spot if you want to be really close to the water, and away from the crowd. The only down side we found was our cell phones didn't work very well and it is a long drive back to town to the only grocery store, a Piggly Wiggly.

Henderson Beach SP is right on the beach. I know a few folks here have stayed there. Welcome to Florida State Parks

Topsail Hill Preserve SP near Destin is really nice and has full hook-ups. Downside is the CG is about a 1/2 mile from the water. They do run a shuttle. Topsail is very difficult to get reservations on short notice, and many people plan way ahead and book at the maximum window in Florida of 11 months. I understand Henderson Beach SP is nice, but I can't speak for it as I have never been there. There is also Ft Pickens CG near Pensacola Beach. It is a National Seashore CG, and has electric and water, but no sewer. Like Topsail, the CG is not right on the water, and requires a little walking to get to the beach. Gulf SP, near Gulf Shores AL, is very nice, has full hook-ups, but also suffers from not being right on the water.

I generally don't advertise St Joe very much. If more people find out about it, it will be even harder to get reservations there.

Topsail is definitely nice. It is not your typical state park. Reason is, it used to be a private RV resort and the state bought it and turned it into a state park. You will not be disappointed.

My father retired and moved to Pinellas Park. What is the closest decent campground near there?
