The family will be going to Fort Pickens from Fort Worth,TX for a week in 58 days. I am counting down the days and can't wait to get to Pensacola. We have been to Pensacola many times and stayed at hotels in town, but this will be our first camping trip in Pensacola. Anyone have any advice or thoughts on the park for a family with 3 kids ages 11,8, and 7?
We are also considering going to Topsail for a few days also if we can get a spot reserved. Is it worth the extra drive to go to Topsail for 3 additional days? Or should I completely cancel Fort Pickens and try reservations at Topsaill? I know another thread was talking about how much fun they had at Topsail. I know we are going to have a great time no matter which park we stay at, but I thought I would get some advice from others who have been to both.
Went to Topsail last December for about 4 nights. Great place. It has an older section up front and a new section in the back. New section is very nice. The beach is about a walking mile away, but you can walk to a pickup place and they offer a ride. Bring the bikes (they offer rentals) because they have some great bike paths, or you can ride to beach. Sites are very limited so make reservations NOW if you plan on staying.
If staying in loop A, I'd stay in Pickens, if not, I'd go to Topsail....with young kids, if surf is too rough, you can go to beach by the fort on bayside. Ps, don't forget to go to the Aviation Museum.

Thanks for the advice. We have reservations in loop A, what makes it better than the other loops?
