Fourth of July Crowds lighter this year?

We noticed that Fourth of July crowds are lighter this year in central lower Michigan. Our CG is not entirely full as in previous years. It is a private CG for seasonal campers and occasional campers alike. On a bike ride the other day, we rode out to a public CG and noticed empty spots there as well. Normally, they are booked 100% for a long holiday weekend and you'd be lucky to get a scrap spot, even in the worst of the recession. Is this a trend everywhere?

I think more routine campers are backing off of holiday camping and leaving it to the ones who don't go out as often. I for one have begun to avoid holiday camping unless I can get a really good spot somewhere.

I can understand that. Our group specifically scheduled a trip the weekend before the holiday one, but the campground was still full nonetheless.

Not here (north east Ohio at a Thousand Trails park). Had both a staffer and a seasonal guy say they've never been busier than this weekend.

I was in southeastern Indiana and it was packed solid. I did notice a lot of people left on Saturday. We did get a lot of rain but it wasn't constant.

wmtire;

DH and I came close to doing just a pass-on-thru when we got to the RV site last Wednesday evening and just going back home. It was PACKED with rude and thoughtless people.

What we're draggin ain't easy to maneuver and people were parked half out in the narrow one way roads through there. Kids' bikes out in the road with parents just standing there watching us try to get around them. That pavement has deep drop offs on the sides also.

Ain't even gonna describe the "late hours entertainment" group, as some of them might be friends of yours. I'll just say they seemed oblivious to park rules and must have thought every one in the park was hearing impaired.

We have a new rule of our own; stay home on holiday weekends. AND, we won't be visiting that State Park again any time soon.

P.S. Where's a second vehicle (God forbid a 3rd one) supposed to park there????? I followed him up in my Jeep and finally just stuck it between two pine trees. Hey, at least I didn't leave half its arse out in the one lane one way road!

We have decided to forego July 4th holiday camping. Seems to have a higher volume of drunks. We get out enough to not have to deal with it.

Everyone on the East Coast was here in Gettysburg for the 150th Anniversary Commemoration. There were 1/2 MILLION visitors here.

Pictures and video after we get home.

I noticed the opposite.at our seasonal site in Chincoteague,Va.,the transient area and the tenting area were full.plus,based on the amount of traffic on the main drag,there was an endless line of traffic heading to the beach at Assateague.

Upstate NY the campground we normally go to was not full. However some of that could be blamed on the weather. We actually went to the campground on Monday and left on Friday. Owner told us it was sold out, but when we left on Friday did not look that way. Lots of rain here in the northeast, and it did rain Monday and Tuesday and was predicted through the week. While it did improve and by Thursday and Friday was nice. I think some people backed out and decided not to chance it.
