Gas in Georgia

Just a head's up IF anyone is headed to Georgia and other states on the Eastern seaboard area. IF you have not heard or seen on any news source a gas distribution pipeline in Alabama, owned by Colonial Pipeline, has a serious leak and this line has been shut down. The last estimate is that some 336,000 gallons of gas has leaked from this line. They cannot attempt repairs until they remediate the contaminated soil near this line which may take as long as two weeks. Colonial announced this morning that they are going to lay a new line to by-pass this leak so they can get the gas moving sooner. Their estimate on this will be 8-10 days for the new line. This line transfers gasoline from Houston to New Jersey with branches going in all directions. This line branches off just west of Atlanta and goes southward to Bainbridge, GA. via Albany, GA. where I live. Gas prices here have skyrocketed in the last 24 hours. Gas prices were in the $1.90 range two days ago and some stations here have gas at $2.30 now, IF they even have gas. Yes, there are some stations here that do not have any gas at all. There are three (3) tanks farms in this area and I rode by each of them today. Normally there would be tanker trucks lined up to fill up with gas but today there are NONE, no truck in line at all as there is no gas. I talked with a sister in Roswell, Ga. (Atlanta area) this morning and she had to go to five (5) different stations to find gas and they had attendants at the pumps to limit people to ten (10) gallons each. She paid $2.45/gallon for that gas. So if you are headed east you should check with websites that show where one can buy gas and the cost at that station.

Is this gas only or is diesel included in the pipeline issue?

Agree. We live in Georgia and just paid $2.49/gallon in the Ball Ground, GA area. Plan your trips accordingly. Several gas stations here are out of gas.

The state took steps to ease the problem and it would have worked if people had done 2 things. 1. not freak out. and 2. try spending a little time at home over the weekend. Traffic in Atlanta is horrible anytime but weekends it's much worse. Which makes no sense because these people spend most of their time during the week sitting in traffic.
