GPS

I am looking to get a new GPS. My nuvi200 does not do trucks or RVs. I have a 2006 F250 4x4 King Ranch with commercial plates and a 2014 Primetime Crusader 260RLD 5th wheel. Not able to use my pickup truck on parkways in New York even without camper. Have not taken camper off Long Island yet. Looking to do so next month. Looking for one GPS that does my truck, 5th wheel and my car. I like the RV760 but the propane thing will be a problem. The dezl760 would take care of the propane but gives me settings more suited for a tractor trail truck. I like the RV one with all its RV info vs the dezl and all its truck stops and truckers info that i don't need. Does anyone have any suggestions?

From what i am being told it does not take care of the propane. In my travels there are tunnels that you can not take propane through. Was my information i was told incorrect?

Just bought the dezl 760 and it does not deal with the tunnel/propane issue. It will handle your rv dimensions, etc.

I think if you use the hazard setting it covers your propane.

I purchased a magellan rv9165t-on. It's awesome. It will do everything you want +. I got a reconditioned unit on Amazon for half the price of new and it works perfect. Love it and wouldn't think of leaving without it.

spock123 - You cannot take propane through any of the tunnels that connect to NYC, nor on the lower levels of bridges, such as the GWB.

I stand corrected, you can set it to truck and compressed gases and it will route you around tunnels that are restricted.

I think you are wrong. I looked at what you can take on a RV and you have to have more than 2 30lb tanks. I think most people see no LP and they think about campers but the regs are for trucks with placards. It says in a RV that under 220lb is exempt

Either way I do not think I would want to even think about navigating NYC with an RV or TT!

They are correct, NY says no propane at all lower level of GWB and tunnels. I asked if it could b shut off since I travel with the motorhome frequently across GWB. I drove through Baltimore tunnel 2 weeks ago with a car, police had a class A pulled over and they didn't seem happy. I was stuck in traffic jam, I wasn't happy either.

3 times I drove through NYC with a class C and a car trailer, 52 ft. long. Other than traffic/drivers, no problem. Class C or A have DOT tanks and according to MD DOT are permitted in tunnels. I have run the Balt. tunnel several times with tank off. Not knowing why he was stopped only speculation. Could have broken down.

Not quite correct regarding NYC, but it's pretty well hidden - see the Red Book which is issued by the Port Authority of NY and NJ which administers the bridges and tunnels. See p. 5 (of booklet not PDF pagination) - flammable gasses are Class 2, Division 2.1. See p. 13. See the note on p. 13, Materials of Trade (MOT) are allowed here. The definition of MOT is on p. 33 which seems like it doesn't apply, but it carries over to p. 34 where there is this note:

Division 2.1 or 2.2
DOES A CAMPER/RV MEET THE REQUIREMENTS FOR M.O.T
• Not over 100 kg (220 pounds) in a cylinder, or
• Not more than 70 gallon water capacity for a non-liquefied Division 2.2 material
with no subsidiary hazard in a permanently mounted tank manufactured to the ASME Code.

Other limitation
• Aggregate gross weight of all materials may not exceed 440 pounds

[I presume that LIQUIFIED petroleum gas does not qualify for the "non-liquefied" exception but should meet the first one, <220#]

[the proviso "with no subsidiary hazard..." appears to apply to both the way it is written in the booklet after both bullet point]

[note the key term: "permanently mounted" - this would exclude TTs as well as any auxiliary tanks brought along for the ride]

If you are daring enough to take an RV into NYC, you might want to bring a copy of the Red Book along or the key excerpts because chances are good most police or PATH officers don't know every little detail.

I will say I have driven a car + U-Haul trailer right through NYC and it wasn't so bad. However, there are some streets where you may find a very tight squeeze and if you can't get through and have to back up . . . you might hear a little bit of car horn honking! Also, just go ahead and expect every driver to cut in front of you. Once you know and expect it, it just becomes part of life.

Problem is everyone interprets the regulations differently including the port authority. With the aggrivation of being pulled over past the,GWB who would want the hassle. Easier to avoid then get in a match with port authority. Since taking directly with them gave a different answer then the book they will give a ticket and let you agree later.
I travel through NY approx 10 times a yr. Traffic jams always, really no problems with drivers.

If that's the case then someone should tell the Baltimore tunnel people... Police, toll takers, administration, Web site.. Because they all say no to propane! [emoji4]
