Gulf state park al
Just got home from 4 nights at Gulf State Park at Gulf Shores Al. Big park, over 400 sites, but nice. Some spots are scrunched but many are reasonably private. The beach is not within walkin distance of the park, as you may be led to beleive, but it is close by. Three major attractions, the beach, fishing, and about a million seafood resteraunts. If you like any of these things you'll love this park. They have a golf course too. Nice folks, there was a snafu with our reservation and they fixed it all up - no problem. We'd stay there again, although we did see an alligator and an armadillo and a snake. Oh yeah, for bird watchers there were many many colorful birds. No cable but we got lots of channels on our antenna. If you're dragging kids along the park has a place for them and down the road is a pretty big water/amusement park.

I've played golf there years ago. We plan on camping there sometime this year. Thanks for the review.

BeeGee... They have beach access at the park though, just not walking distance, correct? Is it bike riding distance? We're a bit late in the game, but we're looking for places to go this summer and this looks like it mike tic all the boxes the family had on the list... And they have spots available.
Update... Just made reservations on Bear Road for the 2nd week of July. It never asked what I was camping in, so I'm hoping that whatever I just reserved isn't for something we won't fit in.

Another update... We moved out spot to Quail Rd. I pulled up Google maps and it looks like a better chance of some shade on Quail than Bear.

Did you book online? I had read on their site that was not an option, neither was picking a certain spot.

Ya, booked online last night. Called back today and changed the road we were camping on. After looking at a satellite view, it looked like we'de have a better chance to get near some trees on Quail than on Bear where we originally picked.
You can book online and you can pick a road you'll camp on, but not a specific site or even a section of the road and some are many, many sites long.

Gulf State park is nice go there almost every year. Not as many trees as there use to be the last big Hurricane took care of that was better as for as trees are concerned before that but they re did all electrical and most sewer after then also added a few more camp sites. Hope to spend a few days the first week in June there.

We were in Gulf Shores back in March and I took a drive through the state park's campground. Here's a link to the thread I posted that included some photos of the campground.

We are heading to Gulf State Park on July 17, staying for 5 nights. The kids are driving me nuts wanting to go early. Should be a fun drive from St Louis.

We'll be staying there the nights of July 5-7 on the last leg of our TX, AR, TN, SC, GA, FL, AL, TX trip. We're in Charleston, SC now, about halfway through the 3 week trip.

Semoindian, how are you going down to Gulf Shores? We were all over Alabama for the entire month of May. Lots of interesting things to see and do. If you are going through Huntsville, you might want to plan a day - or at least a half-day - to tour the Space Museum. Don't know how old your kids are, but if they are older than 8 or 9 they will thoroughly enjoy it.
