Hampton roads tunnel

Can any one from VA. tell me if there's a toll to go through the Hampton roads tunnel? Heading to Va. Beach, checked the tolls last night and see they upped the Bay Bridge tunnel to $39 each way for my rig. Couldn't find info on Hampton roads.

Saw that last night and thought it was confusing. They list the tunnel, but when you scroll down and click on tolls it only lists Elizabeth River crossings. Used Google maps street view and can't see a toll booth, so thinking no toll, just wanted confirmation.

Hi, There is no toll for the Hampton Roads tunnel. We go through there several times a year. If you are towing any camper, you must stop at check points before tunnel for propane gas check. You either show them it's off or turn off propane then. I do not know what motor homes have to do.

Where are you staying? We are going to First Landing State Park in August.

We stay at Holiday Trav-L-Park. Used to stay at Cherrystone and just ride the bike down to the beach. Might have to go look at a new unit in Richmond, so was going to ride over maybe Friday. Then I saw the toll, so figure I might as well just go down to Richmond first. Lot of people complain about the jet noise at Holiday, but I guess we got used to it. It's pretty awesome to see those jets come in low over the campground.

As others have said, no toll.
Hope you enjoy the Travel L Park. A friend of mine stays there every year. Its too crowded and sites too close together for my liking. They do have lots of stuff to entertain the kids though. And they have a parking lot at the beach so you don't have to pay when you go there.
We rent a cabin at First Landing State Park. I like the campground there also but it's usually 6 of us. 6 is too many for a week in our smaller camper.

I live in Va Beach, as stated, no toll on the Hampton Roads BT or the Monitor Merrimac BT but the traffic can be a nightmare. If you can plan it, try to hit the HRBT after 9AM and before 3PM weekdays. On weekends the tunnel west bound towards Richmond starts backing up around 11AM. Saturdays are the rental turnover days for most beach rentals so people are heading home. Sundays are the weekend warriors heading home. If the HRBT is really backed up you can always go around to 664 and the MMBT.

EDIT: There is considerable construction on I-64 from Fort Eustis Blvd (Exit 250A/B) down to Jefferson Avenue area, they are adding lanes so you may want to rethink your route.

I grew up in Hampton and remember taking the ferry from what was to become Strawberry Banks to Ocean View. HRBT built in '57...does that make me old?... And for all you Hampton Roads oldies, the amusement parks at both Buckroe Beach and Ocean View were pretty cool as a kid. And the Chamberlain Hotel, Fort Monroe, Mariner's Museum, the Lion's Bridge...

Thanks for the help. Wife really wants to look at that new camper in Richmond. Since we are going down Thursday was hoping for a little reprieve on the traffic. Was thinking of taking 460 down to 58 and up to 264. Thanks for the heads up about I-64 construction.

Maybe I'm just out of touch these days. But that seems a tad excessive to me.

Yeah, used to be $28. First time I stopped and that number popped up on the toll meter the wife's eyeballs almost popped out. Couple years later and it went up to $31, now it jumped to $39. Real pain cause it's 85 miles more to go around, and that's 10 gallons of diesel for me. So in the long run I'd be saving $14 and taking an hour more time. Just crazy that down and back it adds almost $100 to my trip.

460 is the way to go in my opinion. We take that route when we go. No traffic, no tunnels, no tolls.
What dealership are you looking at in Richmond. Just curious. I had a bad experience with one dealership there on a Jayco.
