heading to Myrtle Beach

I'm heading to Myrtle Beach in 2 weeks from CT, I was wondering if anyone else has done this trip from NE and if so what is the best route to take, one of my main concerns is around the DC/Baltimore area.

Should I just take 95 all the way down or, is 95 the best route?

Just plan for road construction on 95 South towards Baltimore. Head in the direction of the Key Bridge to avoid some of the road construction on the Baltimore Beltway-Rte 695 at Charles Street and Liberty Road exits. You won't be able to use either tunnel in Baltimore due to propane restrictions. You'll pick up 95 South again on the other side of the city off of 695 Inner Loop.
We travel to Myrtle Beach each summer. I usually try to leave my area around 10 PM so I deal with less traffic until I get south of the Capital Beltway- Rte 495. There always seems to be road construction on 495 as well.

will there be signs posted. When we drive to Florida (without the camper) I don't pay much attention to restrictions for the tunnel due to we're in the suv. Now I'm towing the camper, I'm trying to find the best route to take.

Yes there are signs about the restrictions. Where are you staying? We've been to Myrtle beach Travel Park, Lakewood Family Camping Resort and Ocean Lakes Camping Resort. They all are excellent places. We try to get as close to the Ocean as possible. If you're a seafood lover you're heading to the right place. I highly recommend Crabby Mikes and the Noizy Oyster if you like steamed crabs. There are so many places with seafood it's mind boggling. Have a great time and be safe.

We're staying at Pirate land. It's our first time there.

You will like it there. They have a lot of big sites unlike the other CG's there where they pack you on top of each other.

That's our next planned place to stay. We like trying different places and I've heard some nice reviews about Pirate Land from others on the forum.

Cool, can't wait to get there. My plan is to do nothing but fish with my kids.

Sounds like a great time. Hope the weather is perfect for you all week and you catch some nice size fish. Enjoy it, be safe during your journey there and have one for me.

Have 5 days and will be in MB myself for 2 weeks. Been going there all my life. Not as a camper though. We have camped the last 6 years. If traveling on a Sat might want to avoid 95 very busy. Might want to check out how far 29 is from ya and try to pick up 74. Safe Travels

Talking

Are you driving straight thru, or making a layover? We just got home a hour ago from the state park in myrtle, we live in new jersey along the delaware river, trip took 13 hours, we were lucky tho, no accidents enroute. We have been as long as 15 hours because of accidents. Are you going early am or driving night?
If you drive night, you won't have any delays, we did one trip in 11i/2 hrs.
Dave and Rainy
Are you inland or on the beach at pirateland?
Also go to bj's produce stand on the frontage road almost across from pirateland... best s.c. peaches around! Tell em Dave from nj sent you

We like Myrtle Beach Travel Park. Take a drive through there while you're down there. Stop and check out the shower rooms, I think you'll be impressed. We prefer May & September, way less people, everywhere.

Highly recommend Ocean Lakes if you're going to MB. Travel park is nice and so is Lake Wood. Ocean lakes is almost entirely concrete pads, Lake Wood only has concrete on the Ocean Front spots, Travel Park has none. I hope you enjoy Pirate Land, I won't go back. They pack you in pretty tight there, and there is also a sign at the south end of the beach about toxic water at high tide due to a small water way that gets backed up at low tide.

If being on the ocean is not entirely important, I HIGHLY recommend Willow Tree Camping Resort. It's 12 miles inland, but amazing. I posted some pictures in the Eastern USA threads of Willow Tree. Coming from CT, I can understand why you would want to be on the Ocean. We only go to MB in the fall, but I live 3 hours away. MB this time of year is packed, prepare for massive beach traffic, it usually starts to calm down after Labor day. We're going to Ocean Lakes for 8 days the first week in October. It's usually mid 70's and the place looks like a ghost town.

I said all that to say this... have fun. You'll still enjoy it. Take lot's of sunscreen, it's about $10 to $14 a bottle down here.

We stayed at Lakewood one year and Pirateland the next. Pirateland has a nice little lazy river, but Lakewood sites were larger and just seemed like a nicer CG. Really though, I think you can't go wrong either way. We love Myrtle Beach

...and all of Ocean Lakes and most of Travel Park are pull through sites. Pirate Land and Lake Wood are all back in sites. If you have kids, Ocean Lakes and Lake Wood is the way to go. All the campgrounds there stay pretty much booked up, so they're doing something right.
