Hunting Island Lighthouse SC
Just spent the last 3 nights camping at our favorite State Park. We've lived here over a decade and finally climbed to the top today. 132'....a lot of steps.

Nice pictures, I love lighthouses, we might have to check this one out. How was the campground/park?

Park is awesome. We go as often as possible. You really need to book well in advance or watch the Reserve America site like a hawk. That is usually how we get out there is by scooping up a cancellation. According to the store, it's the #1 State Park in SC and I wouldn't doubt it. If you serious about going and have any questions let me know.

I would like to know more about this park. We were at Huntington Beach State Park by Murrell's Inlet last summer for over a week and a week at Myrtle Beach State Park. Like Hunting Beach and the smaller town feel of Murrell's Inlet. We want to go back to the area and I was thinking of checking out this place.
Questions:
1. Rattle snakes? Really? Or only in theory?
2. Sting Rays in the Water? Really, or only in theory?
3. Does high tide here cramp space on the beach really bad as in some pictures?
4. How is swimming and boogie boarding in the surf here? Awesome at above named places.
5. Jelly fish in the water? Really? Or only in theory?
Thanks,
Lynn (1 of 2 bodzcampers)

If you like the small town feel, you'll love this. "Town" is actually about 12 miles away. They have a nice store, but for groceries, you need to get what you need as you leave civilization, or disconnect and make a day trip to Beaufort.
1. Never seen one. I'm sure they are there, but I've never seen one or heard of anyone seeing one.
2. Yes, they are there.. I grew up on Folly Beach (Charleston) but I've never encountered them. I haven't stepped on any, or seen any.
3. YES. When it's high tide, there is hardly any beach.
4. Swimming can be tricky and rip currents exist. No lifeguards. Boogie boarding is awesome, but that is really dependent on winds and wave conditions. Sometimes it can be flat.
5. Jelly fish are there too, but not really an issue most of the time. There is a period (I don't know when) when I wouldn't go into the water because there are thousands on the beach.
This place is an absolute jewel. It is tight! Trees are close to the road. Take your time and you'll be fine. Don't rush or you will regret it.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks, I'll have to find out about the jellyfish season. Not a fan of stings. Kewl on the rattlesnakes...if they keep to themselves, fine by me. Also, little bummer about high tide as that is the best time to boogie board. Still looks awesome. I HEART SC Coast!!!

We stayed there 2 years ago for a week and we loved it! Plenty of trees and shade, plenty of trails, very nice uncrowded beach, very clean park and shower houses! We are going back soon and highly recommend it!!

X3 on the campground! We try to go every year or so. I've never seen a snake - lots of raccoons and deer though.
