75 is, by far, the best route south that I have taken. Watch your arrival time in Atlanta, otherwise, flat and great services all the way!

Did Cincinnati to Tampa a couple week ago. That is certainly our road of choice. As above. Take the bypass around Atlanta at the busy times.

We went strength thru Atlanta at 6:30pm. 20 MPH for maybe one mile downtown--speed limit rest of the way.

I-75 Southbound is closed at the Rouge River Bridge till sometime in 2018 for bridge reconstruction. Do some research on an alternate route if actually starting from the Ambassador Bridge and North. Time of day should be considered when choosing route.

Hope this is of some help.

I-75 is a pretty good hwy, Cincinnati is a choke point, and there are some nasty hills at the TN/KY border. AN alternative route that I sometimes take that adds a few hours is get to Louisville then down I-65... the hills on that section are not nearly as bad and you avoid Atlanta altogether... you can do US Rt 321 out of Montgomery AL to take you to Pensacola/panhandle area... that section is 2/4 lane hwy, or hit I-10 east to I-75... or cut the corner from around Tallahassee south...

We used I-75 mostly while getting to Goshen for the Rally. The only really bad spot was around Cincinnati, definitely use the bypass.

We live in metro Atlanta, on the north side, and Atlanta is always a PITA. Avoid rush hours, 0600 - 0900, lunch hour, and 1500 - 1900 and you should be fine going thru Atlanta.

We just went to Orlando a couple weeks ago and I-75 was a nice drive all the way to the Florida Turnpike once we were thru Atlanta. No major issues to report on I-75 north or south bound...

The I-75 Ohio River bridge connecting Cincinnati with northern KY is a disaster. (This is one of the busier interstates in the country.) It's down to a single lane in both directions with some nightly closures! Not many alternatives to its reconstruction. New bridge was estimated at over $1B. The best alternative, if you've got the time, is to take I-275 west around Cincinnati. It's a little longer but totally avoids the entire mess and has no steep grades. If you're adventurous and partly off your rocker, while going southbound on I-75, take the I-275 bypass east to I-71. Abeam downtown, take I-471 south. It crosses the Ohio River on the other main bridge out of Cinci. I-471 merges back onto I-75 about 3-5 miles south of the KY/OH border. One benefit is that the uphill climb into KY on I-471 is not as steep as on I-75. Unfortunately, there is some construction on I-71 also...narrow lanes, lots of cones but traffic continues flowing. This alternative routing is not for the faint of heart if it's night or raining.

BRIDGE REOPENED A WEEK AGO, AUG 26 to normal 4 lanes each direction... maintenance finished... still a mess anywhere around rush hours or on a Friday southbound...

Just did a round trip last week from Grand rapids. 65/69 to 231 to 10 down I75 back. Roughly same time but no Atlanta or Cincy. Will take the 669 route any day.

I-75 from Michigan to Florida

We've been driving I-75 to Florida Gulf coast for some years now.
It's the BEST way down to Florida, as we've tried a few others without being satisfied with them.
Cincinnati area I-75 has been under construction and funnels down to one lane as you get into the downtown area close to the primary bridge to Ky, so plan your travel time thru Cinci to try to avoid AM & PM rush hours.
Atlanta is another special experience, and there is NO good time to drive through that city; there is heavy traffic at all hours of the day and night!
To make the drive down AND back more enjoyable, pick up a copy of "Along I-75" by Dave Hunter. He sets up his guide like a AAA Triptik, with each page approximately 30 minutes driving time. He tells you about all the points of interest, preferred hotels and restaurants, as well as gasoline, fast food, and major businesses located at EACH I-75 exit! He just published his 19th Edition earlier this year, and they're available on Amazon.
I'd get the latest edition (or close to it) for the highway updates.

X 2 sometimes you can go straight through Atlanta and other times use the by pass. Later RJd

Since RSDATA posts that the Cincinnati bridge is open, that will help. Going thru Cinci will be acceptable to awful based on traffic.
I posted a thread on the I-75 closure back in the spring. It has a number of comments on getting thru Detroit.
If you decide to cross in Port Huron, be aware that US-23 has some heavy construction going between Brighton and Ann Arbor. I don't advise taking I-69 from Port Huron to Flint and then US-23 south.

We just went from Tampa to Detroit all on I-75 just a couple of weeks ago. No problems except for occasional construction area. Trailer towed nicely, no real mountains to contend with.

Jose is projected to miss North America entirely.

Again, tho, even the experts don't know.
