I knew we were signing up for stop & go rush hour on Friday night. I just wanted to get us south of DC. I'm in Howard County only about 15 miles north of 495. I worked around the beltway for 8 or 9 years and got used to the drive. It doesn't bother me too badly to drive slow.

Your on road vs. travel time matches ours pretty closely. I set cruise at 61 or 62 and ultimately average just under 50mph.

I try not to, but I hear what your saying as well. Sometimes its unavoidable. I do love having the extra 45gallons in the bed tank though, being able to skip over fuel prices in NC and northern SC is really nice. Last year was the first time down since my move from a 2001 Monaco to the 5er and truck, I made it to south of Savannah before I needed fuel, then I was good to go all the way to FW, the few trips I made off the disney campus and back to GA on the return trip before I needed fuel again.

Being a TT member I was surprised you did not plan a stop at The Oaks at Point South in Yemassee SC not a great park but at no cost to members a decent place for a stop over.

We are Platinum TT members and The Oaks is not available to us. Been there and it is not a very good cg. Sites are level, but that's about it.

I have heard the same thing about The Oaks, and I can't say Point South is anything to scream about, but if you get there before the front office closes they will happilly guide you into your site. And while the pizza they make is nothing spectacular, its at least on par to pizza hut and dominos. Plus they deliver it to you site just about the time you finish setting up for your overnight stop.

I think it didn't fit mileage-wise with my original plan but then once I posted this thread, it likely would have fit the bill. It never even dawned on me.

Like I said not the greatest place but at the price we paid($0) it was ok for a couple of nights to tour Beaufort & Charleston SC.
We are now at Fort Wilderness so get in touch and maybe we can meet up.
