I know different parts of state have differing temperatures just like PA. I think east of I 95 have the warmer temps.
I was just talking to my daughter and she says you should go to central SC, north. Average temp in January is 55 degrees. I might be heading down there to visit her then. At those temps it will be like summer time.

We lived in Hampton/Newport News, VA for a time. The weather in winter can vary widely. The year we left (1974), we had a picnic on the beach Jan 1st and 7" of snow on the ground a month later.

The area at about the latitude of Richmond is where the winter weather systems over the Great Lakes and those over Florida are close to each other. If the boundary between them moves 100 miles south, northern NC and southern VA can go from Miami weather to Detroit weather in just a few hours. The forecasters can't accurately predict the movement.

We don't start our camping season until the end of March. We head to Myrtle Beach for the first trip. NC weather is too varied for anything earlier IMO.

Camp in NC in Jan if all you want to do is sit inside and try to stay warm. Not my idea of camping, I can do that sitting in my driveway.

Most camp grounds in Northern GA close for the winter and don't reopen till April. However seeing how I do NASCAR we end up camping at Hampton AMS in Feb looks like again for 2016 was hoping for date change but no luck. This may be the last time I do if the dates don't get changed. Weather can get pretty iffy. I will be ending my camp season in Charleston the first week in Dec then home and winterize. Later RJD

Lived in northern MO and northern IL for over 50 yrs, owned snow mobiles and loved it, now if I want to feel cold, I stick my hand in the freezer and if I want to see snow, I'll watch tv. We like warm weather and go to FL when it gets down in the 40's here in Concord.

To each his own. I like cold weather, I can put on enough clothes to stay warm, I can't take off enough to stay cool.
