Is North Carolina warm enough to camp in January?

Was wondering if North Carolina is warm enough to start camping in January? I don't want to drive to Florida to get warm weather. Only needing high 50's or low 60's at minimum. Looking for a respite from Pennsylvania January. Any comments or recommendations would be appreciated.

I know different parts of state have differing temperatures just like PA. I think east of I 95 have the warmer temps.

I stayed at a campground near Asheboro in late February, and my fresh water hose to the hydrant froze solid.

WE have also camped near Myrtle Beach near the end of February. Even though we did not have freezing weather that trip, some of the campers there had 5 gallon buckets over the hydrants with light bulbs in the buckets to keep from freezing in past weeks. Northern Florida can get pretty cold, also.

Here on the NC coast it can be hit or miss with the winter weather. Generally the days will be in the 50's but we do have spells of lows in the teens and highs in the 30s, usually about a week at a time. We spent a week in Myrtle Beach over New Years last year and the weather was in the 60's.

Having said all of that we are backwards this year and going to the mountains for New Years!

I live in North Carolina, well the southern part, we camp in winter. We stay at Kure Beach, actually Ft Fisher, it's a military campground. Sometimes we are alone for the whole time, it's nice. We go to Surf City.

I live in central NC about 30 mins west of Durham. I do winter camp here but you won't really see those temps in January too much. Typically we see daily lows in 20-30 but can see single digits some times. Highs will be in 40's, maybe occasionally see a fifty.

Temps are more moderate by the ocean...and hard freezes are not common...but like last winter...they can happen.. daytime highs in the 50's are more common than in the 40's on the ocean. That said...I go to FL. This will give you avg. temps hi & low by month on the outer banks.

Has anybody used a heat tape on the incoming water. Maybe not on a vinyl hose?

I doubt you'll find the temps you mentioned anywhere north of Orlando, not to mention dealing with snow.

Its NC you can see all 4 seasons in one day in this state depending on where you are at.
I live in central NC and days could be as high as 60's with night temps dropping into the 30's or lower. ITS a hit or miss kinda thing.
Depending on which end of the state you are planning on camping this would be a better guide to temps.
good luck

Good point jtesta1- I've traveled between MD and FL in late December/early January and usually stop in NC. I agree that we've never been frozen out. It can be chilly.

South of Charleston SC should do the trick.

We usually have highs in the 50's and 60's here in north Florida in January and the first part of February, then it goes up from there on. We can have temps into the 20's occasionally and frequently get them in the 30's overnight here. We rarely to never see frozen puddles, so I doubt your lines would freeze. This will be our first winter with our TT, but we do not see a reason to winterize it. Folks from up north camp down here all winter without problems.

Pick up a hose with built-in heater at an RV supply place like Camping world and never worry about it again..works great

We live in South Mills, NC ( about 7 miles south of VA state line). Last winter was long and cold. We had almost a 1/2 inch of ice in our above ground pool even with the filter running continuely. This is the 2nd time in 7 yrs it happened. So while NC is considered south, it still gets cold. We winterize our trailer ea year.

We live in Concord/Charlotte area and go to FL around Thanksgiving and come back in Mar. Wouldn't think of camping in Jan or Feb here.
