Good luck finding a place. Along with Boyd's, there is another campground on Stock Island called Leo's. We have never stayed there, so that is not a recommendation, just a suggestion.

There are also a few marinas that have RV spots (Geiger Key, Sunshine Key) but again, we haven't stayed at those.

If you end up further north in Marathon, I can recommend Jolly Roger RV Park. It is certainly not a parking lot and we had a blast there. It's just not CLOSE to anything, so be prepared to drive to wherever.

Also, Christmas is the busiest time of year in Key West so prices and crowds will both be large.

Anytime in September is the slowest time throughout the Keys due to hurricane season. My brother used to own the Artist House in Key West, on Eaton St. and we would go and visit in September because his place was mostly empty. I don't know about the campgrounds but the B&B's all start high with their prices with phone reservations (worse email!) but drop them considerably when questioned and pushed. I wonder if the campgrounds work the same? The old time business owners throughout the Key's have become very good of squeezing the last dollar out of the tourist trade (because they hate them tourists) if you don't question their price and availability.

I have stayed in the keys 3 times this year so far.
Curry Hammock State Park.
Bahia Honda State Park.
And Boyd's Key West.
All three were VERY Nice. I have always like Bahia Honda but hard to get in!!!!
No sewers hook ups and cell service is weak at BH in certain areas.
Curry Hammock the sites were great. Awesome Breeze the entire time.
Campground staff even raked the sites when the people left out.
No Sewer but convenient dump station. very few sites. Bath house was older and "green" so composting toilets. Showers were hot and clean!!
Boyd's was convenient to key west and some hole in the wall places to eat!
Staff was kind and sites were pretty clean.
WAS VERY WINDY when I was there.
I did not haggle to see if the price would drop. But will try. what the heck!
Just remember a bad day in the keys is better than a good day at work!

My brother and his neighbor always welcomed us with "Welcome to Paradise". He left after 8 years because of the constant threat of hurricanes. He became a slave to the Weather Channel.

We're heading to Homestead in a couple weeks for the NASCAR championship race, then to Key West for a week. Last year we stayed at Geiger Key RV Resort and Marina and had a fabulous time. It's really, really small, but exactly like an old time Keys experience. Everyone was extremely friendly and we were made to feel part of the family. Great bar, restaurant on property that, again, is a very "locals" hangout. Can't wait to go back.

We booked 4 nights yesterday at Boyds for thanksgiving, no problem and they have more sites available. A bit expensive but we love the Keys and this will be our fist real trip with our first TT and TV. Camped all round Europe before we moved to Florida. Camping is so different here its like a hotel on wheels.

Try Leo's. Not fancy, but cheap for the location. I've been camping their for 8 years in January and February. A picture of my site and motorhome is on there website. Click on rv at the top of page.

I'm glad to hear of someone who has stayed at Leo's. It's almost never mentioned, even on Trip Advisor when people ask about camping near Key West. I was starting to think it was a figment of my interwebs!

Just got back from Boyd's Monday after going to Fantasy Fest. It is pricey, and I wouldn't want to take something in bigger than mine. It was very convenient, but I prefer the mid-to upper keys. Have stayed on Fiesta Key and love Key Largo - snorkeling in John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park.
