It is , for us, prohibitively expensive to camp in Key West or nearby, for that matter, averaging $100/ night for "parking lot " style campsites if you can find one without reserving several months in advance. If you are Military, the campground at Sigsbee is reportedly much more reasonable when secured well in advance. The State Park campgrounds at Bahia Honda and Key Largo are incredible, also, and not bad at @$40/per Diem, but once again have to be secured 11 months in advance. Well worth it, though...we stayed two weeks at each and absolutely loved it...clean, spacious sites. Rest rooms, great snorkeling, fishing, beach combing. Really. A paradise if you can get in. On Key West, be sure to visit Zachary Taylor State Park...one of the nicest palm lined sandy beach and a near reef with spectacular snorkeling.
