Kissimmee Praire Preserve - Okachobee FL

If you use a Garmin GPS - please beaware it will take you to a wrong location - it puts you in the area but puts you on a dirt road - I had directions but didnt see any signs so once I saw a kid on a bicycle he told me where to go and he was right - I love my GPS but when it takes me to the wrong place I just want to chuck it out the window.

Ok now onto the destination - was very tranquil and quiet - it was an hour and a half drive for me and this was the first time I have actually taked the TT on a "real" trip since I picked it up March 9th -
I do not consider camping on your parents driveway a real trip either

My first impression was shell road (truck and trailer are gonna be filthy) and it was a ways back to the camp sites - there isnt much to do around unless you want peace, quiet, a place to unwind and relax and want to look at the nature around the state park.
The price to camp one night is very reasonable - $17.60 including tax

we went down one of the walking path's and saw Hawk's and vultures and alligators

I would probably go back again but gotta try other parks first before I do that again since my daughter is 4 she got bored really easy where I was very content.

Sherdep,
This is one of those "hidden gems" in central Florida. I have been to the park, but I have not camped there...very Old Florida and very cracker...great pics, nice rig...I would enjoy camping there from October to May for sure...

I have to Agree with you - I would have never know about it either - my parents camp alot and have never been but told me he had a friend that went there all the time cause it was inexpensive and very tranquil

I am also looking at the other state park - Lake Kissimmee preserve in Lake Whale - was told that the deer come right up to the campsite - I bet my daughter would get a kick out of that.

Matt, looks like a great trip. Vastly different terrain from the desert southwest in New Mexico. Our constant companion is our 7-year old (this Saturday) grand-daughter, Jasmine, who we have custody of. Long story there! Her absolute most favorite activity is going camping. Her first trip with us was Thanksgiving 2008 in our previous Rockwood, a 2104. She loves our new 2304 & was with us when we picked it up at RV Wholesalers last year.

We love Lake Kissimmee State Park. All kinds of animals wander around the camp sites. There were an awful lot of fire ants when we went, but otherwise it's a nice little park.

Very Nice Charlie - I bet she was a Happy Camper like my daughter was when I brought the camper home the first time - I have been to the west coast and you are very right about the terrain being diffrent
Good Ole Uncle Sam sent me To california and was an experiance to see stuff you normally wouldnt get to see on top of going overseas as well - wouldnt change that experiance for the world.

sunqueen - I am looking at making Lake Kissimmee one of the stops on my list of places to go - someone told me about the animals wandering around thought my daughter would love that
I am also looking at doing Anastasia State park in St Augustine as well but seems like you have to book them way far out
