If you are not absolutely set on L.G., the Lake Placid KOA has cabins available. It's only 75 miles from L.G., and is a nice facility. Lake Placid is also a very nice town.

In any case, you should consider a day trip to the High Peaks area or the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mt. Lake.

Brian217, agree the Sagamore is a great place to visit, especially the Tiki Bar down by the small beach area. Wife and I did the Minnie Ha Ha last July on a perfect summer night to be outside on the water. Fireworks were way better than expected and the band playing inside, a bunch of local teachers off for the summer, was excellent. You do have to be careful of some of the restaurants along the strip though. Most are owned by foreign groups and the food and service will be sub-standard from what most would expect. One of the best places to go though right on Rt. 9 just outside of town is the brew house. Excellent flights of beer and very good pub food. Yep there is a lot to do and see in the entire surrounding area of Lake George.
