Leaving Acadia need 1 day drive suggestions

We've pretty much got our route figured from KY to Acadia NP in Maine.

I am totally stumped on routing home!!
Help!!
We're going up the coast on the way there so I thought we'd
head inland to get back.

Do you have suggestions for stops about 300-400 miles.
Could be a single night or a 2 nighter if there's stuff to see.
We're more of the woodsy scenery type rather than outlet mall shopping!

Any and all suggestions for specific stops or just general areas to pass thru
and consider are appreciated.
Thanks!

Check out Pegasus Farm in West Virginia. This should be close to your route.

We will be arriving at the Blackwoods camp grounds on the 18th. We always stop in Freeport & stay at LL Bean on the way up. It may not be far enough for you though.

Just got back from there. Go over to Bangor and take Rt 2 to Gorham, NH. Stop at White Birches Campground just east of Gorham. Nice place. There are some beautiful scenery in that area. Take a drive up Mt. Washington if you want to get an adrenalin buzz. Absolutely beautiful area. Leaving there take 2 over to I 93 or 91 to head back south. If you have time cut across southern Vermont to Bennington, Vt. Beautiful historic village. Camp at Greenwood Lodge and Campground on Rt 9 just 8 miles east of town. 200 acre campground with woods, creeks, lakes and more.

Going up or down

When u went "up" the Maine Coast u actually went " down". But that's ok we're tolerant down here. Kidding Aside, try Two Rivers Campground on rt 2 just e of Skowhegan. Take in the play At Skowhegan Playhouse at 8pm.

Also, take in the art museum at Colby College in nearby Waterville. It's renown for it's American art - good restaurants in W'ville too.

In your distance frame would be Lake George, NY. A lot of neat things to do there, especially if you have kids.

We stayed at Ginny-B Campground in Foster, RI on the way south, but on the way north, we stayed at Brialee Campground in Ashford, CT.

Both were good for a 1-2 night stay, there were lots of seasonals and the residents were very nice in both campgrounds.
