Looking for campgrounds for a trip in GA and TN

Hi all, we will travel to the Chimmey Rock area of TN in August. We live in the Tampa Bay area and will travel up I-75. Looking for campgrounds in the area. We tend to like the not Cramp Ground places. Our kids are late teens so we do not need amenities like pools. We looked on the internet at Townsend TN, one site had campers as close as 10 feet apart not us. Also looking for advice about the part of the trip and staying on the east side of Atlanta on the way up and back if anyone knows anything in that area. We pull a 34 foot Cardinal 5th Wheel and like the more wooded parks. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I live near Chimney Rock, NC but I am not familiar with a Chimney Rock, TN. But I think you will be near the Chattanooga area. If so look at Raccoon Mountain CG. It is just a few minuets off I-24 and pretty close to most of the attractions in Chattanooga. The campground is very nice and the rates are very reasonable.

Depending how Far East of Atlanta you are wanting to go...Stone Mountain is a great area and it's campground does have some sites that are spaced out similar to what you find in a State Park setting.

If you are looking to make a stop around Valdosta, GA...Eagles Roost is the only campground I'd recommend...great shaded sites.

We've not camped in TN yet, but it appears you can now reserve campsites in the SP system there now.

You might try Pine Lake Park campground near Athens Ga. I have not camped there yet but plan to Memorial weekend. I will let you know. It looks very shadeed and laid back with fishing lake.

We just made reservations at Stone Mountain for the 4th of July weekend. It seems like a nice CG with plenty to do, a little expensive for a 1 night stop though I think if that's your plan

The Eagles Roost that Ragin Cajun mentioned would be a nice stop for a night. There is also a KOA across the interstate. They are also building a Camping World next to the KOA that will open in November.
