Macon GA, 475 or 75 best route?

We're headed south soon! A friend told me today that he encountered
heavy construction on the I475 bypass around Macon Ga recently.

He suggested staying on I75 thru town instead of the bypass.
We'll be going thru on a Saturday afternoon.

Any folks with experience in this area speak up please!

My AAA trip tick doesn't even show construction but I believe my buddy
knows what he saw!

Thanks!

It's been a couple of months since I went through that area, and yes there is construction. You may be fine on a Saturday as GDOT contractors usually don't work on those days unless paving. I-475 takes a lot of time off the route. I checked the state website Welcome to the GDOT and still do not see "active" construction. You might check back just before you leave or even give them a call.

If you end up gong I-75, you will go right by a HUGE Bass Pro Shop. Great place to make a stop!

Take I-475. Travel I-75 a lot between Fl to NC and always use the bypass. Just watch your speed. GHP there a lot..

Will be watching this thread in case anyone has updates. I will be traveling this route also next month. While we are at it, anyone know of any recent landslides in TN along I-75?

No. The landslide took out the road between Gatlinburg and Cherokee. It will not be completed until the end of March(hopefully). It was not an interstate, it was US Hwy 441. From where I live, we know have to go through Charlotte on I-40 or up through Chattanooga to Knoxville via I-75 and I-64. I haven't heard of any interstates being taken out, The last one was I-40 near Charlotte a couple of years ago.

I'm talking about the landslides that take half of I-75 at the north end of TN every couple years. Was about 7 yrs ago, lost not southbound lanes, last year lost shoulder and half of slow southbound lane. We get hung up there and lose an hour or two.

Apparently my buddy is confused about what route he was on.
Everything I can find says the bypass around Macon is fine.

I just looked at all the traffic cams for the Macon 475 bypass.
Traffic appeared to be light and flowing nicely.

I used 475 northbound around Macon about two or three weeks ago with absolutely no problem. In November we took 75 south through Macon and hit a lot of construction, barriers with absolutely no shoulders, and that great curve south of the city. Plus, the 475 bypass is shorter.

I vote 475.
