Making a trip to gatlinburg tn

Looking at a trip from north east arkansas to gatlinburg Tn. 7 hrs 36 mins trip says 500 miles. I am looking at hotels and $125 a night and taking the minivan prolly $90 in gas or pulling the camper( 5th wheel xlr 305) and staying at camp sights, prolly $200 in fuel, $20 a night in camp sites. Looking to staying 4 nights w wife and kids and tubing, skiing and site seeing. I'll save $300 by raving. My question is any campgrounds that are open in February someone would recomend.looking at camping in the smokeys. Another question is I have never used water, toilets, and dumping in the winter. I have the weather package where the pipes have heaters. What would I need for water hookups, I am assuming heated hoses. Thanks in advance.

It can be a real crapshoot in Feb...if it dips down real cold then all bets are off. I am sure some of the locals from right around there will weigh in.

I can recommend Anchor Down RV resort. It is on the pricey side though, but extremely nice. Not sure if they are open in February, but you can check their website.

Anchor Down is not near Gatlinburg. At least 45 minutes away. As nice as it looks, to bad it isn't near anything at all.

Sorry, I guess the driving doesn't bother me much as I live in Atlanta and it takes 45 minutes to get to the grocery.

We have stayed at Riverside RV park in Severville and enjoyed it. It is right on the river and close to everything. I would call before going to be sure they will be open and make reservations. Gatlinburg is small and has very limited rv space. Severville is 10 minutes away.

I live in Sevier County, and Mid February this year was the big ice/snow storm this way. Your trip that time of year would best be accomplished by driving the vehicle and staying in a motel/resort, check out the Wilderness in Sevierville, an indoor waterpark, so doesn't matter how bad the weather gets - once you're there of course. Safe Travels.

We just returned from there. I strongly suggest if taking the camper that you stay at Riverbend RV Campground in Pigeon Forge. It is a nice park right along the Little Pigeon river and close to everything in Pigeon Forge and Sevierville. It is just up the road from Gatlinburg.

Being that most campgrounds in that area close Dec 1st through March would hint it must be the worst time for winter weather...as others stated, hotel & auto will be a safer trip =)

We've been there twice this year, last trip being end of September. We stay at Bear Cove Resort in Pigeon Forge and really like it. They have a website, not huge, plenty if space on all sites, concrete pads, full hookups. One mile from Dollywood, five minutes from the park, ten from Gatlinburg. Extremely clean and quiet, friendly staff. I think your $20 per day around there us quite low, though. I didn't see anywhere in the park that had full hookups, in fact, I'm not sure they even had electric there. As others said, February there can and has gotten well below zero, it's anybody's guess.

Campground

We are staying at Good Sam Kings Holly Haven on Wears Valley Road, Pigeon Forge. It is open year round, and I think 30 amp is $28, 50 amp $32 a night during winter. Realize not Gatlinburg, but nice, convenient Campground. Good luck!

Take a look at Pine Mountain by the creek. We are staying there first weekend in December for the lighted Christmas parade in Gatlinburg. The campground is in Pigon Forge and near everything. You should be fine with a little cold weather precautions. Oh, I think Anchor Down is to much of a drive when you can find a nice rv park where you want to visit.

X 2 on Pine Mountain. Stayed there this past August and it was a fantastically clean campground, well laid out, and only 1 block off the "main drag" in Pigeon Forge - which you'll pass through on the way to Gatlinburg. Not sure where you plan to go tubing that time of the year though - it's going to be cold. And, if you do choose to stay at Pine Mountain, you have the use of the indoor pool at the hotel right across the street. Snow? Yeppers, you could get some that time of the year.

One thing to keep in mind - a lot of hotels and some of the restaurants are closed there during the winter as there isn't really a lot of tourists during this time. You really might be better off expense wise, just to drive and get a hotel once there. Most post their reduced rates on their marquees. But then, you do have your meals to consider as well.

X2 on Riverbend CG and last I knew they were open year round. There is a Gatlinburg shuttle that you can walk to from the CG, but not sure of their winter hours.

Just my two cents.
Lots of ice and snow between you and Gatlinburg in the winter months.
Check this website for hotels TripAdvisor: Read Reviews, Compare Prices & Book
Will give you location, rates, and reviews. Don't book thru this site, call hotel direct to get possibly a better discount.
If you get a room with a fridge and microwave, eat in the room. Pack utensils, paper plates, etc. eating lunch out is cheaper than eating dinner out. Plus breakfast is easy.
I love my TT, but when facing icy snowy weather, rather just deal with the TV.
It might be a nice winter for travel and then it might not.
