McKinney Campground near Acworth Ga
McKinneyCamp Ground is an Army Corp of Engineers campground located off I-75 about 30 miles north of Atlanta Ga. It is on Lake Alatoona which is a huge lake created some years ago by the Corp. The campground has about 150 spots, all with some wooded surroundings. Some are right on the water, some in the woods, some are more private than others. Ours was walking distance to one of the 2 beaches in the park and also very near one of the boat ramps. We put our camper there for 10 nights. We stayed some and allowed our grown children to spend some nights there without us along with their children. And we also spent several nights there with the grandchildren woithout their parents. It's close to our home (about 20 miles) so the commute was good. This is a popular park for Atlanta area residents and long stays require some planning with reservations. We paid $260 for 10 nights and that was the last 10 days of June. There were many available camp sights that we saw during that period although not so many on the weekends. The check in process is horribly slow so it's a good idea to book on line and do an on line pre reservation. We did that and slid right in. All in all it was fun for the kids, would have been awesome if we'd have had a boat, but otherwise a nice campground. Nice views of the lake but no sewer hook ups so bring your portable dump station if you're gonna stay awhile. No cable but you can get the local Atlanta stations on an antenna. No Wi-Fi.
